Our mission: “Striving to impact youth in the development of self-confidence, self-discipline, and dedication for the skills necessary to succeed in sports, and in life.” The Means To Play - BRIDGEPORT YOUTH LACROSSE
Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse Sports Academy (BYLSA) has been committed to increasing awareness and opportunity for urban youth in the sport of lacrosse since 2006. By creating strategic alliances and partnerships locally, state, and nationally, we "Strive To Impact Youth In The Development Of Self-Confidence, Self-Discipline, And Dedication For The Skills Necessary To Succeed In Sports And Life”. One of BYLSA’s biggest goals is to diminish the disparity between sports programs available to Bridgeport’s urban youth as compared to their suburban counterparts. BYLSA is the only program of its kind in Bridgeport CT that offers youth the chance to experience a unique opportunities not offered in all inner city environments. It gives the participants a constructive, supervised activity to learn new skills, develop sportsmanship, experience leadership opportunities, and to get ample exercise. BYLSA offers educational services, college prep, peer counseling, non-traditional sports AND our crowning jewels- our S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math Programs), Mental Health Counselors, and Nutrition programs. The epidemic of gun violence and gangs effecting our communities WILL diminish with the introduction of positive role models and mentors. By working to change social conditions through non-traditional programs, advocacy, public awareness and community education - Fostering a culture of sports to end the youth violence that plague our city - bringing people together, from diverse background, creating constructive dialogue and finding solutions through youth lead initiatives. We will create a self-sustaining youth sports academy which will support the City of Bridgeport’s most vulnerable and underserved youth population and beyond.
