Our Manresa Wilds adventure is now open to non-members as well! Join us as we go shooting at a decommissioned power plant in Norwalk. We'll be inside climbing as much as eight flights of stairs to get to the roof and outside on the grounds. More information at the link in bio. Pre-registration is required for this event.

ASMP Connecticut has arranged a private photo event at Manresa Wilds Bring your camera and spend the morning shooting at a decommissioned power plant. There will be lots of walking and stairs and we will be indoors and out. Link in bio for registration. This is a limited ticket event. ASMP Connecticut members get priority. You must pre-register at least 24 hours prior to the event.

Thanks to those who came out to Brewport yesterday amidst a busy season! You can’t go wrong with conversations over drinks and new connections…and Brewport’s delicious pizza didn’t stand a chance! We forgot to take a group photo, but here are some snapshots towards the end of the night.

It wasn't a huge crowd, but was neat to be in this small group setting. So here are some “cliff notes” from our conversations:
- We loved David Lubarsky’s stories on past jobs: always do your research on your subject and create rapport. You never know how it can affect your shoot! (And how many minutes you have the with person!). David Lubarsky is a longtime ASMP member primarily hailing from the New York Chapter. Thank you for sharing some of your experiences, and we hope your personal project blooms in an amazing way!

- Duck Unitas, a product photographer, shared how AI hasn’t affected him negatively. Clients hire him because he solves problems for the clients right then and there: his level of understanding and familiarity of the products, how to show them in the best light, angles, and cataloging them appropriately, is one of few reasons why human beats Ai. - Also Duck’s wife Diane was with us, and they shared how they work as Santas, with Diane being a great Mrs. Claus! With Christmas around the corner, this is good to know ;-)

- Speaking of A.I…. A conclusion was, if a company wants to get AI headshots done, that’s a way to ruin reputation of your company…! Also, a reminder…AI is another tool. When digital cameras first came out, companies would buy a camera and give it to their employee, or like IT guy, to take photos. When rubber meets the road, companies still need the human behind the tool.

- Asha Holmes is a professional stylist: while she has a fashion background, styling props like home decor is her favorite! Textiles, furniture, and all the beautiful things. She does style people for shoots, but it requires another level of focus and intentionality (which we all wholeheartedly can relate!). Asha would love to meet more photographers needing prop stylists, having moved into Connecticut from Mass ;)

- Abram Hammer is a new ASMP member (welcome!) and shared a fascinating book that is more about editing films to tie emotion and the shot: “In the Blink of an Eye” by Walter Murch. Abram is a videographer primarily, having done a lot of work with a private school in Pennsylvania. He lives in Rockville, CT and would love to connect with more creatives (no Insta for him, but you can find him on LinkedIn!)

- Ling is obsessed with the structure of story, and is also working on some personal projects incorporating more people in her work. She is inspired by “Building a Storybrand” and also brought a photography book “Revealed” by and his ability work with so many unique individuals. Ling met Scott through New England ASMP, and assists him on jobs.
