Meet a legend! And an member. Don't miss Sean's short film titled A Mind of Winter, about the beauty of cold, at our first film festival next week. Link in bio to sign up.

Coming from a theater background, Sean Kernan discovered the joy of photography while getting the opportunity to shoot his first story for Look Magazine in NYC. This moment inspired him to pursue photography as a career. While looking for organizations that he could be involved with, he stumbled upon ASMP, which supported a lot of magazine photographers, including famous French photographer & ASMP member Henri Cartier-Bresson. Sean loves how ASMP is where creatives can also support each other. Having been a member since the 1970's, he's seen a lot. Sean enjoyed being involved in a past ASMP program, the Road Show, that saw 200-300 attendees in 5 U.S. cities. Sean was chosen as a speaker about embracing creativity, because as a working photographer, we get busy doing client work so much that sometimes we forget to have fun.

Speaking of fun, Sean emphasizes that creating fun images can not only get you paid work, but it satisfies your creative cravings, and cements your purpose as a photographer. Sean's personal work has shown potential clients who he is, as a photographer and human. You never know what opportunities a shoot can lead to. Sean noted, you’ve gotta do the work, and keep shooting, just like how a musicians practices his instrument. Chase the moments that stand before you. Clients “might not hire you for shooting THAT, but they love that you do it.”

After decades of shooting commercial, editorial, and corporate work, today Sean focuses more on personal, creative work. As a matter of fact, come to our Film Festival on Tuesday, July 14th, where you'll also see a film by Sean, titled "A Mind of Winter" - about the beauty of cold.
