Dance To Be Free Dance To Be Free is changing the lives of incarcerated people through the healing power of dance!

Dance To Be Free’s mission is to radically improve the lives of incarcerated women through the healing power of cathartic dance. We launched our program at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility in 2015 and have since expanded to 17 prisons across the US. We offer live classes, DVDs of our filmed classes and a teacher training program. The regularity of the DVD program is critical in creating lasting change and will give us access to prisons that are in distant or rural areas. The teacher training program gives our students the opportunity to lead and inspire others while gaining a skill they can use during and after their sentence.

Dance To Be Free returns to Nebraska this week for a two-day training with the women at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW).

✨ DTBF had a full and rich week of dancing in the prisons of Southern Colorado, bringing programming to three facilities over four days. 💛
✨ Youthful Offender System (YOS) | Pueblo
Two days of movement, connection, and leadership with YOS residents and La Vista dance leaders.
✨ La Vista | Pueblo
We joined the resident-led DTBF class Thursday night, then spent Friday with the dance team working on cueing, rhythm, choreography, and leadership. Their next DTBF training is already nearly full!
✨ The Beacon | Cañon City
We wrapped up with two hours of dancing, writing, sharing, creative movement, and a spontaneous Soul Train with the men. 🔥
A lot of movement, connection, laughter, and growth in four days. 💛
