Today marks three years since October 7, 2023. We remember and honor the lives lost, hold close all those forever changed by that day, and continue to hope and work toward a future of peace, safety, and healing. 🕯️

Amen.

This October 7 will be the third anniversary of the worst attack on Jewish people since the Shoah. We pray for lasting peace for all who live in Israel, love Israel, and all those whose lives have been torn apart by war.

"On October 7, we remember the evil, the horror, the terror, the atrocities. We remember the valor of those who stood their posts, who returned to the battlefield to shepherd more to safety, who gave their lives defending Israel.

We remember the hundreds taken hostage: men, women, the elderly, and little children.

October 7 is a day for memory and a day for grief.

We pledge to honor the memory of all who were lost, all whose injuries—inside and out—have yet to heal, and all who have suffered so grievously the horrors of war, by building the land and the State of Israel into a Sukkat Shalom, so that all who dwell in that sacred land can live their lives in dignity, in freedom, in safety, and in peace.”

What a joyful Simchat Torah!

Last weekend, we danced, sang, celebrated, and filled our sanctuary with the joy of Torah and community. Together, we reached the final words of the Torah and immediately began again — a beautiful reminder that our learning and our story never truly end.

We kicked off Sukkot on Friday evening by gathering together to decorate our sukkah and share a delicious Shabbat meal!

It was a beautiful way to welcome the holiday—surrounded by community, conversation, laughter, and the joy of being together under the sukkah.

Our sukkah is here for our whole community throughout Sukkot! Feel free to stop by Har HaShem and spend some time enjoying the sukkah on your own.

What a meaningful Yom Kippur we shared together. We are so grateful to everyone who joined us for a day of reflection, prayer, music, learning, remembrance, and community.

From our Preschool and Family services to our congregational services, afternoon learning, Yizkor, Ne’ilah, Havdalah, and Break Fast, it was incredibly special to see our community come together throughout the day.

A huge thank you to our clergy, staff, musicians, teachers, and especially our wonderful volunteers who gave so much of their time and energy to make these High Holy Days possible. We couldn’t have done it without you!

May we carry the meaning, connection, and hope of these Days of Awe with us into the year ahead. May 5787 be a year of peace, sweetness, and blessing. 💛

We support קהילת כל הנשמה - Kehilat Kol HaNeshama, our Reform partners in Jerusalem.

Our thoughts are with the congregants and rabbis of קהילת כל הנשמה - Kehilat Kol HaNeshama in Jerusalem, vandalized for the third time in several weeks.

It is a dark day when a synagogue must worry about the safety of it building and worshippers at the hands of Jewish extremists.

We continue to call upon the Israeli government to protect worshipers at and near Israeli Reform and Conservative congregations, to speak out against the violence, and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

May Yom Kippur pass peacefully for all. May the perpetrators be brought to justice and come to understand the wrongness of their ways. And may we all meet each other as equals on a shared path to peace.
