Colorado Hands & Voices Colorado Families for Hands & Voices is dedicated to supporting families with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing without a bias around communication.

"What works for your child is what makes the choice right" is our motto. Colorado Families for Hands & Voices is dedicated to supporting families with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing without a bias around communication modes or methodology. We’re a parent-driven, non-profit organization providing families with the resources, networks, and information they need to improve communication acc

ess and educational outcomes for their children. Our outreach activities, parent/professional collaboration, and advocacy efforts are focused on enabling Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children to reach their highest potential. We also offer a monthly e-news about events in Colorado, a quarterly newspaper by subscription, and parent to parent support through our Guide By Your Side Program.

Maybe you learned about your child’s hearing difference long before receiving an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis — or perhaps it happened the other way around. Either way, your family’s path has likely been shaped by the limited support available for children who experience both.

Our goal with this website is to make it easier for parents to find trustworthy information and to connect with a community that understands this dual journey. Your ideas and suggestions are always welcome. As parents, we often don’t know what questions to ask until someone else shines a light on what’s possible. Within a community of learners, there is so much shared wisdom.

Maybe you knew about your child’s hearing difference long before learning about Autism Spectrum Disorder, or possibly the other way around. Your journey and your child’s journey has likely been complicated by the lack of support for this dual challenge.

June is CMV Awareness Month

Cytomegalovirus (pronounced sy-toe-MEG-a-low-vy-rus), or CMV, is a common virus that infects people of all ages. Congenital CMV (cCMV) is the leading non-genetic cause of childhood hearing loss, and the number one reason for birth defects caused by a virus. One in three children have CMV by the time they reach 5 years old, and up to 80% of adults have had it by the time they reach 40 years old. CMV causes little to no health issues in healthy adults and children.

We are excited to share this wonderful opportunity with all of you, especially during cCMV Awareness Month.

The Scarlett’s Park Conference wants to warmly invite you for the 8th Annual Scarlett’s Park Conference, taking place virtually on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

This year’s conference, “Congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV) and the Developing Deaf & Hard of Hearing Child,” will explore one of the leading causes of non-genetic hearing loss in children worldwide. Although congenital CMV affects thousands of children and families each year, awareness and understanding of its long-term impact remain limited across educational, medical, and community settings.

Throughout the day, presenters and panelists will share perspectives on screening, early identification, educational implications, developmental outcomes, advocacy, and lived experience. Together, we will examine how interdisciplinary collaboration and Deaf-informed, family-centered practices can strengthen support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children impacted by cCMV.

The conference will be held virtually from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM PST.

Registration is free; limited to the first 1000 participants

0.7 RID CEUs in Professional Studies will be offered
BEI and Silent Garden CEUs will also be available
ASL interpreting and captioning will be provided
Partial CEUs will not be awarded

We hope you will join us for another meaningful day of learning, reflection, and community as we continue cultivating knowledge, advocacy, and support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and their families.

Knowledge is one of the most effective tools for keeping children safe. By increasing awareness and recognizing the warning signs, we can help create safer environments for all children.

Take a moment to read, learn, and share this important resource.

How do we recognize grooming behaviors — and how do we help keep children safe?

In the newest issue of the Digital Communicator, The O.U.R. Children’s Safety Project: What is Grooming? offers important information every parent, caregiver, and professional should know.
Education and awareness are powerful tools for protection.
