This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

As firefighters, we understand the meaning of duty, sacrifice, and commitment to something greater than ourselves. Today, we remember those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we hold dear, and we stand with the families and loved ones who carry their memory forward.

May we never forget their courage, their service, and their sacrifice.

From all of us at Boulder Local 900, we wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Today, your Boulder Professional Firefighters proudly honor the mothers who keep our families, our firehouses, and our communities strong.

To the moms working the job, thank you for your courage, resilience, and commitment to serving others while balancing the demands of family life. To the spouses, partners, and mothers supporting firefighters at home, thank you for the sacrifices you make that often go unseen.

The fire service is built on family — and today, we celebrate the women who help hold it all together.

Happy Mother’s Day from Local 900. ❤️🚒

You may see a fire department presence in the area of 5150 Valmont Road this week. Fire crews are training for commercial structure fires in a vacant building on this property. Training in vacant and soon to be demolished structures gives firefighters the opportunity to practice skills in buildings with real layouts, offering immersive scenarios that fixed facilities (training centers) cannot replicate. Crews from our neighboring departments have also been invited to train with us as it’s important to have good working relationships with them.

We are grateful our firefighters get this opportunity to learn and make ourselves better for our community!

In a galaxy not so far away… bravery shows up in turnout gear. 🚒✨

This May 4th, we’re celebrating International Firefighters’ Day and the men and women who prove every day that courage is stronger than fear.

No lightsabers (darn it) - just hoses, hard work, and heart. From emergency calls to community care, your Boulder firefighters are always ready to answer when it matters most.

Today, we honor the ones who run toward the flames. 🔥

Today we remember the lives of William J. Duran and Scott L. Smith, who we lost on January 26th, 1982, during a Boulder Fire-Rescue training incident. The Smith and Duran tragedy changed live fire training standards nationwide through the development of the NFPA 1403 Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions. This standard provides minimum requirements for conducting live fire training, ensuring that they are conducted in safe facilities and in a safe manner for participants.

This morning, our members laid flowers at each of the grave sites as well as laying wreaths at the memorial in front of Station 3. We will never forget these 2 men and the sacrifice they made.

At the end of 2025, the Boulder IAFF Local 900 welcomed four new members, pictured here at their fire academy graduation.

We offer "congratulations!" to our newest brothers and sisters on their graduation from the Front Range Fire Consortium (FRFC) Fire Academy - a rigorous academy where new recruits are trained on all facets of the fire service over several months time. After their graduation from the FRFC Academy, our new brothers and sisters completed four weeks of post-academy training with Boulder Fire. Each new member has now completed their first shifts as probationary firefighters with the department at the start of the new year. We are excited to welcome them to our fire family!

From day one, we are all here as your Boulder Firefighters, ready to serve our community!
