Oil and gas companies drilled and polluted less in 2025, but emissions from each well are rising, Colorado regulators say

350 Colorado’s own Heidi Leathwood is quoted:

“The drop in total emissions in 2025 is “an outlier,” likely due to a rush to get new permits in 2025 and the hiatus in new applications, Heidi Leathwood, a climate policy analyst with the environmental group 350 Colorado.”

Water is also a worry, with producers recycling a far lower percentage than in 2023, led by Western Slope and Front Range operations

🌎 Boulder, join us for the FIRST stop of the Colorado-wide “Here & Now Tour: Building Local Resilience to Climate Disaster”!

📍 Unity of Boulder — 2855 Folsom St.
📅 May 26, 2026
⏰ 6–8 PM

Colorado is already experiencing worsening wildfires, floods, drought, rising insurance costs, and other climate impacts. A 2026 study by the Colorado Fiscal Institute found that preparing for and responding to climate damages could cost Coloradans more than $1 BILLION per year through 2050.

But taxpayers shouldn’t have to carry the burden alone.

Join Mayor Aaron Brockett, Boulder County Commissioners, state leaders, community advocates, and neighbors for an important conversation about:
✅ How climate change is impacting our communities
✅ What resilience and adaptation projects Boulder needs most
✅ Potential solutions, including a Climate Superfund to hold major polluters accountable

Hear from speakers including:
• Aaron Brockett, Mayor of Boulder
• Ashley Stolzmann, Boulder County Commissioner
• Judy Amabile, Colorado State Senator
• Junie Joseph, State Representative District 10
…and more!

🍦 Enjoy Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and snacks from Whole Foods while connecting with others working toward a safer, healthier, and more resilient Colorado.

Co-sponsored by:
350 Colorado, Sierra Club Colorado, Colorado Jewish Climate Action, Third Act Colorado, Climatique, Clean Energy Action, Empower Our Future, and more.

A 2026 study by the Colorado Fiscal Institute shows that preparing for and responding to climate damages will cost Coloradans over $1B on average per year moving forward through 2050. Taxpayers are footing the bill, but we can change that by making major polluters pay their fair share. Be part of the solution!
