Up next: MISSISSIPPI...?!?

Yep, while we were all paying attention to the shiny, close call US Senate races, latest polling has Senate challenger (Scott Colom, D) down a mere 6 points from incumbant Cindy Hyde-Smith (R).

Is a 6 point lead still a challenge? Sure. But in a state that this admin won in 2024 by 12 points, something is shaking loose. Folks in Mississippi have been hit hard by the same national economic factors hurting the rest of the country, and the social service cuts that this administration heartlessly imposed has especially impacted rural areas.

This is an investment, friends. The South didn't become uber gerrymandered overnight - the R had a 50-year plan. As Amanda of Amanda Nelson reminds us, we have to pay attention to and invest in Southern States to get them in play, again. This could take several election cycles so let's get on this NOW.

(According to a 9/27 article in the WSJ, even Chuck Schumer is encouraging donors to invest in Mississippi. Whhhaaattt? About time, Chuck 🙄)

Remember when CA fought back against TX mid-decade redistricting?

Here's what it's come down to:
CA-22 pits five-term Republican incumbent David Valadao against Democrat Randy Villegas in a Central Valley district.

New redistricting lines have made the seat more favorable to Democrats — the district would have gone for Biden by 17 points in 2020 but Trump by only 2 points in 2024 with its current lines.

Current polling shows the race as a toss-up and some polls even have Villegas ahead. With control of the House this narrow, a single competitive district like CA-22 carries outsized weight in the national outcome. 

This will be a TURNOUT election and - you guessed it - we're trying to reach pro-democracy voters who typically sit out the Midterms.

Write postcards! Urge voters with our values to show up and get democracy over the top in this too-close-to-call contest!

Come on over to Blue Wave HQ next Tuesday, 9/22 from 4-6 pm to write postcards to voters across the country. We'll be joined by Senator Janice Marchman, Senator Katie Wallace and Representative Kyle Brown, and we'll be talking about Colorado ballot initiatives, what the legislature has been working on to protect our rights, and the upcoming election.
