Puddin pete says go bruins!!!

Meet Puddinā€™ Pete, a handsome 1-year-old guy with a heart thatā€™s just waiting for a soft place to land. Puddinā€™ Pete is a silly guy who can be a little worried when meeting new people and in new places, so he appreciates a little patience while he settles in. Once he feels safe and comfortable, his fun-loving personality shines and he turns into a goofy, rowdy friend who loves to play, zoom around, and make everyone laugh. He can get overly excited or overstimulated during playtime and will need help continuing to learn how to settle and relax in his home. Puddinā€™ Pete enjoys spending time with both his dog friends and his human friends, and heā€™s always ready for quality time with his favorite people. Teaching a dog to focus their attention on you during a walk outside is an amazing skill for them to develop, even if it takes a little bribery (or a lot!)! Donā€™t forget to pay the cheese tax!!

Ziti recently came in to see Dr. James and our Neurology team at Angell Animal Medical Center. This adventurous lady had jumped off the bed while on vacation, and was showing signs of neck pain.

Her family brought her to see a local urgent care facility where they gave her medication to provide relief. Ziti has a history of intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), which is a common but painful spinal condition. Due to this history, Zitiā€™s family wanted to have the peace of mind that could only come from a visit with their favorite neurologist!

Luckily, Zitiā€™s neuro exam was normal! Dr. James recommended further rest and activity restriction, but otherwise Ziti is doing well! What a sweet girl!

Thirty-three shelter dogs were flown hundreds of miles to safety as Hurricane Isaias approached the Gulf Coast šŸ„¹ā¤ļø

The dogs were living in Alabama shelters and waiting for homes when animal rescue organizations coordinated an emergency transport to get them out of the storm's projected path.

On October 9, the pups landed in Massachusetts, where MSPCA-Angell staff were waiting to bring them to the organization's Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem.

The move didn't just protect these 33 dogs, it also freed up much-needed space in Southern shelters so they could take in pets displaced by the storm and help reunite them with their families.

Now, the 33 dogs are safely in Massachusetts, where they'll have the chance to find loving homes šŸ’™

Something really special and amazing happened today at our Boston Adoption Center. After being in our care for over 2 months of being pretty shut down and shy, Louis realized he actually loves us and let us pet him šŸ˜

Louis is a cat-social cat that has been pretty worried here at the shelter. Louis doesnā€™t have a lot of history of enjoying interactions with humans, and this is the first time he has shown any interest in making human friends. But now, we know itā€™s possible!!

Ideally, Louis could go to a home where there is another confident cat friend in the home with very low pressure on him being human-oriented. Adopters should be prepared to let Louis set the pace, and not have an expectation on how Louis is going to behave. We think he could do best in a quiet, low traffic home!

Louis is an older guy that loves to curl up in a cozy bed and snooze all day. If you can provide a safe place to land for this deserving kitty, please come in and meet him!

Meet Percy! Percy is a 10 year old Weimaraner with energy to spare! His bouncy walk and beautiful shiny coat donā€™t reflect his mature age. This guy loves a long sniffy walk, and is down for an adventure, although he loves to settle once the activity is over.

This pretty lady is Pasta!

Pasta is a 4 year old cow cat who has a lot of feelings and isnā€™t afraid to share them. She is quite affectionate with her friends who are willing to go at her pace, but she can become overstimulated by too much petting. When sheā€™s done, sheā€™s done! Because of this, we are seeking cat-savvy adopters who are ready to go slowly and pay attention to what sheā€™s telling you with her body language. Your reward will be a playful, spunky companion with a personality that will never leave you bored!

Pasta was super stressed around all of the other cats on the main adoption floor. Because of this, we are looking to place her as an only pet. Also because of this, sheā€™s camping out in a staff office at Nevins Farm in Methuen. You can still come by during open hours, which are 12-4:30 Tuesday-Sunday at Nevins to meet her. Just make sure you ask the front desk about PASTA THE COW CAT šŸšŸ„šŸˆ

Last week, 84 cats were surrendered to the MSPCA-Angell after a woman was found deceased in her Reading home. Members of our Law Enforcement and Community Outreach teams helped remove the cats from the residence. The cats were transported to our Adoption Centers in Boston and Methuen, where they are now receiving care.

Our hearts are with her family and everyone affected by this tragedy. The woman was part of the animal rescue community and had opened her home to foster cats in need. We recognize the tremendous challenges often facing foster-based rescue work when thereā€™s an overwhelming number of cats in need, with limited resources to care for them.

Our immediate priority is ensuring all 84 cats receive the care they need. The cats have varying medical needs, and those requiring treatment will receive it before they are made available for adoption. Some may be ready for new homes as soon as this week, while others will need more time in our care.

Taking in 84 cats at once places significant demands on our shelter teams and resources. We are grateful to the staff and volunteers across our adoption centers, community outreach, law enforcement, and community clinics who have been working tirelessly to support these cats through a tragic case.

How can you help? If you have been considering adopting a cat, now is a great time. Whether itā€™s a cat from this intake or just any cat currently in our care, adopting helps a great deal.

Donations also help us provide medical care, treatment, food, and daily care for these cats and for all of the animals in our care.

Lizardo is the best! This young Bearded Dragon came to us after being hit by bicycle outside! They have recovered extremely well in foster care and is social and inquisitive. Favorite foods are crickets, dubia roaches and dandelion greens! If youā€™d like to adopt Lizardo, send us a DM. Theyā€™re currently in foster, so weā€™ll need to set up a time for you to meet!
