❗Después de tres años de trabajo, llega un momento clave:

Se espera que la Comisión de Pesca y Caza de California decida sobre dos peticiones que Azul copatrocina para fortalecer y ampliar nuestra red de áreas marinas protegidas.

A medida que la Comisión evalúa estas propuestas, la tercera Encuesta Nacional de Azul revela un mensaje claro del electorado latino de California: nuestras comunidades apoyan contundamente la protección del océano.

California : our ocean needs your voice! 🌊📣

❗Three years of work have brought us to this moment:

The California Fish and Game Commission is expected to decide on petitions Azul co-sponsored to strengthen and expand our marine protected area network.

As Commissioners weigh these proposals, the third National Azul Poll offers a clear message from Latino voters in California: our communities overwhelmingly support ocean protections.

Join Azul this week, October 14-16, to speak up for California’s world-renowned marine protected area (MPA) network at the California Fish and Game Commission meeting.

The Commission is considering petitions that could strengthen ocean protections – and proposals that would weaken them. Let’s urge Commissioners to strengthen and expand MPAs and reject rollbacks.

Whether you live near the coast or far inland, your connection to the ocean matters. Our family traditions, communities, and future generations deserve a healthy ocean.🌊

September took Azul from 🗽 and Capitol Hill🏛️ to California’s coast and beaches 🏖️ with one commitment guiding every stop: advancing ocean justice WITH our communities.

We spoke up against offshore drilling and IUU fishing, advocated for workers’ rights and equitable access to nature, and launched the 2026 National Azul Poll at Climate Week NYC, followed by a briefing on Capitol Hill in collaboration with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Along the way, we joined partners to strengthen coastal protection, envisioned the future of ocean justice, and celebrated four years of Katherine’s contributions to Team Azul!

This week, Azul, in cooperation with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (Congressional Hispanic Caucus), brought the 2026 National Azul Poll: Latinos and the Ocean to Capitol Hill for a briefing on our communities' priorities.

Azul commissioned BSP Research and worked closely with their team to develop a third poll centering Latino perspectives on ocean conservation, climate action, and environmental policy.

Following a presentation by BSP Research Co-founder Gary Segura, our panel, moderated by Azul Founder and Executive Director Marcela Gutiérrez-Graudiņš (Marcela Gutiérrez-Graudiņš), featured:
- Laura Esquivel, Senior Legislative Representative, Earthjustice Action
- Roland Gonzalez-Pizarro, International Ocean Policy Expert and Azul Alum
- Sofía Barboza, Ocean & Coasts Program Manager, hispanicaccess

Drawing on responses from more than 2,100 Latino voters nationwide, the findings send a clear message: Latino voters are deeply concerned about environmental issues and strongly support protecting our ocean.

From offshore drilling and plastic pollution to coastal access and climate action, these results offer policymakers a roadmap grounded in the voices of our communities. Now is the time to turn those priorities into action.

The cost of offshore drilling is too high – and Latino voters want action.

📊 The 2026 National Azul Poll: Latinos and the Ocean finds that 76% of Latino voters support banning offshore drilling and replacing it with renewable energy such as solar and wind.

Azul Founder and Executive Director, Marcela Gutiérrez-Graudiņš (Marcela Gutiérrez-Graudiņš), and Congressman Salud Carbajal (Congressman Salud Carbajal) underscore the urgency behind these findings: pollution and oil spills threaten our health, blue economies, and ocean ecosystems. Our communities cannot afford to wait for the next disaster.

Even amid concerns about the cost of food, gas, and other necessities, Latino voters remain committed to investing in climate action.

The 2026 National Azul Poll finds that 76% support banning offshore drilling and replacing it with renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.

That support remains strong even when personal costs enter the equation: 64% would still support an offshore-drilling ban if it meant paying more each month for gasoline and household gas.

IT’S HERE: The Third National Azul Poll: Latinos and the Ocean 2026!

Azul Founder and Executive Director, Marcela Gutiérrez-Graudiņš, shares what this nationwide survey of more than 2,100 Latino voters reveals: an electorate ready for bold action to protect our ocean, climate, health, and future.

The findings challenge outdated political assumptions:

🌊76% support banning offshore drilling and replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy

🌊80% say a candidate’s support for stronger coastal and ocean protections would make them more likely to vote for that candidate

🌊86% say the government has a responsibility to conserve land and ocean areas for present and future generations.

Across political parties, regions, and backgrounds, Latino voters recognize the environmental challenges before us, support concrete government action, and are prepared to make climate and ocean protection a political priority.

The message for policymakers, candidates, funders, and movement leaders is clear: Latino voters are a powerful climate and ocean constituency that cannot be overlooked.
