May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month! We are inspired and grateful for all the advancements in medicine to help improve the lives of those impacted by the disease. And, we are truly grateful for our amazing community that helps support our mission "To support finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and to inspire hope and courage in patients, families and communities impacted by the disease."
As stated on the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website:
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. It is progressive, meaning that it gets worse over time. There are close to 40,000 children and adults living with cystic fibrosis in the United States and an estimated 105,000 people have been diagnosed with CF across 94 countries.
Today, because of improved medical treatments and care, about 60% of people with CF are age 18 or older. Many people with CF can expect to live healthy, fulfilling lives into their 30s, 40s, and beyond.
