Housing discrimination has no place in Massachusetts.

One Family and our partners in the Coalition to End Housing Discrimination are joining forces with the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® and the Greater Boston Real Estate Board to advocate for legislation that would crack down on housing discrimination against People of Color, people with disabilities, families with young children, and households with housing vouchers.

A college education can open the door to greater economic opportunity. But getting to graduation takes more than tuition.

For single parents at risk of or experiencing homelessness, housing costs, childcare, transportation, and unexpected expenses can all affect their ability to stay in school.

One Family Scholars combines education with coaching, financial support, and connections to resources to help parents persist toward their degrees and the opportunities that come with them.

Education creates opportunity. The right support can help make that opportunity possible.

The start of the school year looks different for everyone.

For single parents with low incomes, pursuing a degree can mean balancing coursework with childcare while also navigating the high cost of college and concerns about housing stability.

We’re grateful to everyone who supports One Family and makes our coaching, financial support, and connections to resources possible. These supports help Scholars navigate challenges along the way as they work toward their degrees and prepare for family-sustaining careers.

National Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15! During this month, we celebrate the vibrant cultures, rich histories, and countless contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities, whose impact has helped shape the development and progress of American society and culture.

As we celebrate, we also recognize the discrimination and systemic oppression these communities continue to face in the United States, and we stand in solidarity in the ongoing work towards equity and justice.

Did you know, nearly 1 in 5 undergraduate students in the U.S. are parents

For student parents, a new semester comes with many challenges. It can mean figuring out childcare, managing work and school, covering tuition and everyday expenses, and making sure there’s enough time and stability at home to keep moving toward a degree.

At One Family, we provide individualized and long-term support to single parents in Massachusetts with low incomes as they pursue their education, advance toward family-sustaining careers, and build greater economic security for themselves and their families.

As students head back to school this fall, we're celebrating the parents doing it all and the support that can help them keep going.

We’re excited to share that One Family has received a grant from Sincere Foundation! This investment helps advance our work to prevent family homelessness in Massachusetts by expanding access to programs that help parents gain the education, careers, income, and savings needed to achieve stable housing.

This year, Sincere Foundation awarded $200,000 in grants to 17 Massachusetts organizations working to strengthen housing stability, food security, and safe spaces for communities across the Commonwealth. Since its inception in 2023, Sincere Foundation has awarded more than $1.2 million in grants to 63 nonprofits.

We’re honored to be among this year’s recipients and thankful for Sincere Foundation’s commitment to helping parents and families build the economic stability needed to secure and maintain stable housing.

Last week, the Massachusetts House of Representatives took an important step by passing legislation to combat housing discrimination affecting People of Color, families who use housing vouchers, and others.

One Family thanks House leadership and the legislators who helped move this bill forward, including Speaker Ron Mariano, Ways and Means Chair State Representative Aaron Michlewitz, lead sponsor Adrian Madaro, and State Representative Tackey Chan. We also appreciate the support of the bill's 31 House co-sponsors and our partners in the Coalition to End Housing Discrimination (bit.ly/CoalitionToEndHousingDiscrimination)

A special thank you to the members of the One Family Advocacy Team who courageously shared their lived experiences with housing discrimination through testimony at the State House.

This progress reflects what is possible when people with lived experience, advocates, and policymakers work together to advance housing equity across Massachusetts.
