November is Citizenship Month and Tuesday, 11/4, we were blessed to have ROTC students from ASU, as well as veterans from our community, (all Eagle Scouts), come to our den meeting. We had two stations: the first, lead by the ROTC, had the scouts learning about the flag. How it is an important symbol for our country, what the different colors and shapes mean on the flag, and lastly how to properly fold the flag!
The second station, covered by the veterans, talked about the importance of our armed forces and what they mean to us 😌 they also answered some great questions. They challenged the scouts to think about the importance of citizenship when talking about the role of the military and why Veterans Day is so important to celebrate as a country and as an individual.
We are so grateful to our guests! Thank you for taking the time to teach us such important lessons about citizenship and our role as a community!

This week we had an amazing meeting when the head of Herpetology at App State, Dr. Davenport, came to talk to us about salamanders and other wondrous amphibians!
We learned that our region has the greatest diversity of salamanders in the world!
We are looking forward to Spring when we can take our newfound knowledge outside and explore the area for these very neat creatures! Don’t worry though, we always practice “Leave No Trace,” never harming native habitats!
Thank you to Dr. Davenport and everyone who planned this awesome experience!

Our October Pack meeting found us learning about Wilderness First Aid!!
We had guests from the medical and wildlife conservation community come and teach us what to do when we require medical attention in an outdoor setting.
We learned what to do when we experience things like bug bites, bee stings, snake bites, sunburns and heat stroke.
We also were joined by the App State Rec management team who not only helped plan the event but also provided us with “parent victims” that demonstrated the injuries our guests were teaching us about!
Fiona Walsh, a student at App , created realistic injuries with movie makeup!
Thank you to all of our guests and parents who participated in this awesome event!
