Watauga Arts Council Advocate. Educate. Support. Inspire. Nurturing the Arts within the High Country

Our office is home to hosts a gallery, classes, resources, and community groups.

Our work stretches beyond those four walls as we seek to help the arts thrive in the HC. We administer NC Arts Council grant funds for individual artist projects and arts programming through local nonprofits. We provide structure and support for arts initiatives. Please let us know if you have ideas for an interest group or if you need space. We provide arts education for our community and provide

space for educators to teach. We advocate on behalf of the arts sector with community leaders. Some of our initiatives include improving the presence of public arts, incorporating arts in community planning, agency-to-agency collaboration, and art placement programming. We encourage artists to fill out an artist profile so we know who you are and what you do so we can advocate on your behalf.

🎨 BOONE POLICE IDENTIFY MULTIPLE SUSPECTS IN DOWNTOWN GRAFFITI INVESTIGATION

The Boone Police Department has identified multiple suspects in an ongoing investigation into graffiti and vandalism in and around Downtown Boone, with four adults charged so far and additional charges anticipated.

The investigation began in late 2025 and has involved Sgt. Geoff Hayes, the department's Downtown Officer, along with members of the Criminal Investigations Division.

As of August 2026, four individuals have been charged: Angelina Pia Senchak, 23, of Boone (three counts of injury to real property); Thomas Bradford Weil, 21, of Boone (one count of injury to real property); Nikolas William Mason, 21, of Morehead City (two counts of vandalism); and William Randall Eller, 20, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina (two counts of vandalism).

Investigators have identified an additional adult suspect, with warrants issued but not yet served. Two juvenile suspects have also been identified, with one referred to juvenile justice authorities for consideration of charges.

Major Jon Houck said graffiti and vandalism affect "more than the property that is damaged," impacting downtown businesses, property owners, residents, and visitors. He thanked Boone Public Works and the Downtown Boone Development Association for their continued assistance.

Alongside the investigation, police are planning a Downtown Graffiti Clean-Up Day for late summer, in partnership with the Downtown Boone Development Association. App State students, area high schoolers, civic organizations, businesses, and other community members are encouraged to take part.

"Downtown Boone is a place a lot of people care about," said Sgt. Hayes, who's coordinating the cleanup. Those interested can contact him at [email protected].

All persons charged with a criminal offense are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
