It was a pleasure helping the town of Damascus, VA with continued hurricane recovery efforts. The Philmont 2025 crew and family members helped clean debris and sow grass seed in the area that was formerly the dog park on Sunday, March 30, 2025. The town was devastated in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

The Virginia Creeper Trail was particularly hit hard from Damascus to Whitetop, losing significant parts of the trail and 18 historic bridges. That section will remain closed until recovery efforts are able to restore the trail. The section of the creeper trail from Damascus to Abington remains open.

Many other trails in the area were sldo damaged as well. Damascus welcomes visitors back even though activities in the area will look a bit different for the next few years.
