Ok y'all, my goal is to do a big distribution for the New Year.

There is a nationwide count of people experiencing homelessness that happens in January and it's a regional goal to have that number be as low as possible. Last year this count came to nearly 400 individuals in our High Country region alone.

FOUR HUNDRED PEOPLE without housing. Over half of which without shelter of any kind.
Together we help keep this population safe, I know we can.

These numbers are readily available, broken down into demographics here: https://www.ncceh.org/datacenter/pitdata/

Project Warm has had scary low engagement as compared to last year...I'm begging for your ongoing support for this project and our vulnerable community members.

There's a long waiting list for winter shelter, so there's quite a few folks sleeping outside/in their cars. These folks include locals, people with disabilities, people struggling with addictions, people fleeing domestic violence, children, people trying to keep jobs, etc.

Here are the ways you can help:
1. Donate personal camping/survival items that you no longer use. It's ok if they're a bit beat up: the goal is to help keep people safe and alive. I can either do pickups, meetups, or you can drop off at my home. Please message me if you have any extra gear.
2. You can purchase items off the Project Warm amazon wishlist. Those items will be shipped directly to me to be distributed back into the community. I've updated the amazon wishlist for current needs
3. You can donate monetarily by donating to my venmo or paypal. I'll provide a receipt of where that money went. Message me if you would like to use this option.

Everyone deserves to be out of the cold and safe. Please share this post to your pages/on instagram/with your friends. The High Country needs you!!! Here's a pic of last season's forget-me-nots to remind you that Spring will come and to not forget about your community members.

Items I'm always looking for: TENTS, SLEEPING BAGS, AIR MATTRESSES, HYGIENE GEAR, TARPS

Hi all!!
I’ll be doing my first distribution on Halloween Day this coming Sunday.
I have far far less donations coming in this year, but the wishlist is still up and there’s still time to donate gear!!!
I’ll also be distributing Narcan this year. 🙂
Thanks for all your help, holler if you can contribute anything!! Specifically in need of sleeping pads and sleeping bags and tents. 🧡

Hey y’all, our darling local angel Rio made the first donation of the season yesterday. 😇
Temps are quickly dropping and yes there are people stuck staying out in the elements. One thing I’ve learned in the last few years is that The High Country has VERY few safe places to be for someone without a house. Without safety, it’s damn near impossible to stabilize long enough to have the ability to work, receive healthcare, etc. Thankfully, the shelter here provides many wonderful resources for folks at risk of homelessness status and those eligible for services, but I want to help beef up our community’s safety for people who can’t stay at the shelter and are sleeping outside through the winter. Holler if you have any tents/sleeping bags/tarps/etc. that you would like to donate. I also accept monetary donations and I use that to purchase needed gear (I provide the receipt of items purchased with your donation).
I love you guys, please pitch in and help keep our community members alive and healthy.
Thanks to Rio for kicking off this season and putting a big ol smile on my face in the process!! Harm reduction rules!!!

Wow wow wow what a year. It's been a rough one.
Cold weather is very quickly approaching and I've decided to reboot Project Warm due to the pandemic fluctuations and the eviction moratorium lift.
Par usual, the housing in Watauga County is a CRISIS. People are experiencing houselessness in nearly every demographic: locals, students, young, old, abled, disabled, employed folk, unemployed folk, etc. People are experiencing houselessness for the very first time and others are veterans to the harshness of the High Country cold weather, wind, and flooding.
Like last year, I will be collecting COLD WEATHER CAMPING GEAR to help keep our houseless community SAFE and ALIVE. Someone might not have access to the ONE shelter in our 7 county region for many reasons: no room available, not eligible due to transience, sickness, community living PTSD, outstanding arrest warrants, bans, etc. Whatever the reason, EVERY human deserves safety and WARMTH.

Here are your options for helping out:
1. Donate your camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, tarps, hygiene stuff, survival gear, etc.). Because my car is so tiny and I'm in school and work full time, I cannot accept clothing unless specifically gloves or warm weather socks.
I can pick up/meet you somewhere to accept your donations or you can drop off at my house (DM me). I will distribute donations weekly.
2. Buy items off the amazon wishlist provided. The items on the list have been curated after many conversations with my friends who are houseless/previously houseless. These friends have named these items as the most hard-to-find and most valuable for survival and safety. When you buy off the list, the items ship to my home and I distribute them. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/genericItemsPage/5WT8Q91G10I
3. PayPal/Venmo me at [email protected] and I will send you a receipt of what gear I purchased with that money (even if it's just a dollar). If you would like that money to go to gas/hotel funds, please let me know (message me).

Please send me a message with any questions/comments. I promise to begin responding regularly. My spring/summer was absolutely WILD with one crisis after the other, but I'm prioritizing this Project again. I am in school full time and work, so please allow 24 hours for me to get back to you. If you are someone/know someone who needs specific help of any kind, please message me and I will help you find the needed resources.

Remember that folks can eat for free 3 meals a day and receive food boxes at Hospitality House, there are mini free pantries around town, and FARM Cafe is another good food security source.
Holler with any concerns! I LOVE YOU and THANK YOU for caring for your neighbor.

Hi everyone!!! Happy new year. 🖤🖤
A Boone community member just lost their housing, is ineligible for care at the shelter, and is sleeping outside. She’s in desperate need of a tent and I’m slap out!! I am giving her a sleeping bag and some other hygiene stuff, but if someone could please donate a tent, that would be so fabulous. If you don’t have one to donate, there’s plenty of options on the wishlist!! Thank you in advance. Much love. Keeping our community safe and warm is so wonderful. Xoxo

Hi everyone!! All donations off the wishlist have tapered off for the last two weeks. Just wanted to remind everyone that I’d still be thrilled to do distributions through the winter if I keep getting donations! People are continuously losing shelter (in my experience, the high country has 1-2 newly homeless folks daily).

So far you’ve provided shelter, warmth, hygiene, and safety for dozens of folks. I hope we can get through the winter without any cold weather caused deaths.
Everyone is so thankful and I know of at least one person who we helped who is now in permanent housing!!!!

I hope these chilly holidays bless you beyond belief. The winter solstice is on the 21st, so we’re almost over the hump of the shortest day of the year!! Drink some gluhwein and cheers with your loved ones (at least virtually). Message me if you need info or if you need help with anything. Remember the resources at Hunger and Health, Club 12, and HospHouse. I love you all.

I’ll be distributing on Sunday around 11-12!! If you have stuff to donate, I’d love to get it out before thanksgiving! Let me know if you need info. Big love for all of you.
