Our Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, body and mind.

The YMCA Downtown Youth Center opened in 2006 as the result of a dream to serve Birmingham’s young people in a Y built specifically for them. Following the largest capital campaign in this YMCA’s history, the downtown Birmingham facility was built and endowed for generations to come.

We are nearing the end of October so you know what that means, it’s time for our annual book character voting contest!
Our PreK friends did such an A-MAZING job on their character pumpkins, we are so proud! In fact they did so well that we simply cannot choose our favorite, so we’ll let you be the judge!
How do you vote? The numbers are located in the caption of each picture, find your favorite pumpkin and hit the LIKE or LOVE button to record your vote. Once you’ve voted please share the post with your family and friends so they too can get it on the fun!

PLEASE keep in mind that all votes will need to be liked on this original post in order to be counted.

Voting will end on Wednesday October 28th at Noon and the winner will be announced on Thursday October 29th

✨ It’s that time of year again for our Y It Matters 5K, Fun Run + Couch to 5K! ✨

This special event benefits the participants and families we serve right here at the YMCA Youth Center! Every dollar raised helps us continue providing vital programs and services to families in our community, regardless of their ability to pay. ❤️

📣 HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW! 📣

👥 WHO: YOU! Your friends, your family, your coworkers — EVERYONE is welcome!

🏃 WHAT: Y It Matters 5K, Fun Run

📅 WHEN: Saturday, December 12, 2026

📍 WHERE: The starting line will be on 1st Avenue South, between Regions Field and Railroad Park, followed by an awesome after-party at Good People Brewing Company! 🎉

💙 WHY: To support the families we serve each year and ensure that financial circumstances never stand in the way of accessing the services they need.

👟 SO, LET’S LACE UP AND SHOW UP! 👟

Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a casual walker, a first-time 5K participant, or someone who simply wants to give back, there’s a place for YOU!

And if running isn’t your thing, no worries! There are still plenty of ways to get involved:

💪 Participate — Join us for the 5K or Fun Run!

🤝 Volunteer — Give a little of your time on race day and help make this event a success!

😴 Sleep In & Give Back — Choose the “Sleep In” option and support our mission from the comfort of your own bed!
