MESA is a global grassroots network of farmers, researchers, activists and agripreneurs reviving community food systems. MESA connects sustainable farming leaders around the world for participatory learning and cross-cultural exchange to strengthen local, resilient food systems worldwide. Since 1997, MESA has connected over 1400 farmers, activists and advocates and helped launch 146 small-scale fa

rms and food justice projects worldwide. MESA's model is rooted in share-and-learn exchange between cultures and generations to spur innovation and preserve traditional techniques worldwide and advance a farmer-led grassroots movement to transform the global food system. Training programs focus on ecological production practices, processing, direct marketing, community organizing and education, and organic crop research and breeding.

🌎 This summer, rural leaders from 13 different countries gathered to exchange food, stories, and farming knowledge with MESA’s Global Agroecology Pathways Program fellows. 🤝🌱

GAPP fellows spent three weeks in rural Japan 🇯🇵 learning alongside farmers at Asian Rural Institute's 9-month agricultural leadership training program. Together, global exchange participants work side by side to grow nutrient-dense food 🌾🥕🥬 for daily meals and cultivate leadership skills in service of their communities.

🌱 Celebrating the past and present SAGE Stewards at Empower Valley Dream Farm in Knoxville, Tennessee! 🌎💚

A huge thank you to former Stewards Trinidad, Anthony, Wisdom, and Hasun for the incredible impact they made during their time at Empower.

We're also excited to cheer on our current Stewards, Maeva🇲🇬 from Madagascar and Menghor 🇰🇭 from Cambodia, as they continue their journey of learning, cultural exchange, and sustainable agriculture.

This summer’s World Cup has generated bright headlines: Kansans welcoming Algerians with Midwestern hospitality. Brazilians turning Dallas into a vibrant samba stage. Scots flooding Boston with bagpipes and big cheer.

MESA is proud to cultivate FIFA-levels of real, cross-cultural connection every single day. MESA Stewards - emerging and established agricultural leaders from the Global South - often exclaim of their time on US host farms: "We didn't realize Americans are so welcoming!"

MESA works hard to help Stewards score goals in their own fields with mini-grants to fund projects back home, where small grants make big impacts.

MESA gets many more qualified requests than we're able to fund. Every gift closes that gap.

This summer, we’re seeking $3,500 to support low-overhead, high-impact alumni projects, including:

$250: An organic demonstration and training farm in Ghana 🇬🇭

$500: Sri Lanka’s first Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), all-female cooperative farm 🇱🇰

$750: Research-driven reclamation of an indigenous Sierra Leonean coffee species 🇸🇱
