Soroptimist International of El Cerrito is a club for women who live and work in communities extending from Berkeley and Albany in Alameda County to Richmond and El Sobrante in Contra Costa County. Our club held it's annual award's dinner last Tuesday. It was a wonderful evening honoring three Live Your Dream women, a Violet Richardson Award winner, our club's two SIEC Senior Scholarship winners and a Ruby Award honoree. Fellowship District I Director Amelia was present to present a Fellow to our club's preside-elect Ruth Cazden. Congratulations to Ruth and to all our awardees!

We had a fabulous fundraising event today, a British Tea Time at the Berkeley City Club. Great food, super entertainment, and lovely conversations with friends old and new. We also raised almost $20,000 for our scholarships and projects with a silent auction, sales of vintage jewelry , purses scarves and fascinators. A wonderful day!

Time to get your ticket for our big fundraising event of the year, a British Tea Time. We'll be listening to the music of duo harp and cello at the Berkeley City Club while sipping tea and eating scrumptious tea sandwiches, scones and sweets. Karen McNeil, a leading authority on the life and works of Julia Morgan, will speak. All this while supporting our work to help women and girls improve their lives through education. Lots of celebrations this week. First, we had our newest member Shirley, sponsored by Rosemary, inducted by Founder Region Governor-elect Jackie. Congrats Shirley. Then 4 of us visited our longest Soroptimist member, 95-year-old Marlene Leverett, still sharp as ever. The week was topped off by our annual Founder's Day luncheon with the Richmond club. Our guest speaker was the dynamic mayor of El Cerrito, Carolyn Wysinger, who delivered a lively and informative talk. Busy week!
