About 6 years ago, our founder’s son, Kaden, began joining her at Bellingham Regional Chamber of Commerce networking breakfasts. As a young man with intellectual and developmental disabilities, these events were an opportunity to practice social skills, build confidence, bring awareness, and experience what community connection looks like.
This morning was different.
At 21 years old, he attended the networking breakfast and worked a table entirely on his own. For the first time. He was introducing himself, making connections, and representing himself independently. Shout out to fellow attendees for encouraging him as well! Moments like this are why we started The DISH Foundation.
We are also proud to have Norah, our newest team member who is overseeing programming, join us this morning. Watching both Kaden & Norah build connections and engage with our community was a wonderful reminder of what inclusion looks like in action and what our mission is all about.
Today was a reminder that growth happens one opportunity, one conversation, and one brave step at a time. ❤️
