We’re proud to be part of the continued transformation of the Upton community here in Baltimore.

In partnership with Harrison Development and aligned with the Upton Planning Committee’s vision for “The Upton of tomorrow,” we’re helping move forward Phase 3, The Division Street Project.

Through strategic financing as part of the Baltimore Vacant Reinvestment Initiative (BVRI), this effort will bring nine vacant properties back to life as new homeownership opportunities for residents.

We were honored to attend the first ribbon cutting alongside Watchen Bruce , BCL Senior Loan Officer Tracy Evans, Secretary Jake Day and Assistant Commissioner Wendi Redfern-Curtis to celebrate this milestone.

This is what it looks like when partnership, vision, and investment come together to create real, lasting change.

Baltimore’s neighborhoods are filled with potential but vacant homes have too often stood in the way of that promise. What if those properties could instead become the foundation for new beginnings?

That’s the vision behind the Watchen Bruce Neighborhood Renewal Initiative, led by Baltimore Community Lending. By bringing together developers, community partners, and mission-driven funders, the initiative focuses on transforming vacant properties into quality housing, stronger blocks, and long-term neighborhood investment.

During Women’s History Month, this effort also celebrates the leadership of women shaping Baltimore’s future. Named in honor of Watchen Harris Bruce, the initiative recognizes her decades of dedication to community revitalization and the belief that meaningful change starts with opportunity and collaboration.

Through this work, we’re helping ensure that vacant housing no longer defines Baltimore’s story but becomes part of how our communities rebuild, grow, and thrive. 🏡✨

What an incredible morning last week at the kickoff breakfast for the Watchen Bruce Neighborhood Renewal Initiative. ✨

Community leaders, partners, funders, and stakeholders filled the room with conversation, connection, and a shared belief that vacant housing does not have to define our neighborhoods. Instead, it can serve as the catalyst for stability, opportunity, and renewed investment.

Pledges were made. Partnerships were strengthened. Momentum was built.

The energy in the room signaled something important: this work is not theoretical. It is actionable. After more than 30 years of leading this work, we know that when action begins, transformation follows. We are prepared to carry that momentum forward.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who showed up, leaned in, and committed to being part of this next chapter of impact.
