REMINDER FOR ARTISTS:

For our ten year anniversary, we are building a collection of artistic depictions of the physical intersection of Barstow Street and Grand Avenue in Eau Claire in any medium (photography is fantastic, but we are hoping for some painting/drawing as well.) Artists of any background or skill level are invited to submit. Selected pieces will appear in the journal, on the website, and will receive an honorarium. Deadline September 1st!

A hearty congratulations to the B&G authors who received recognition in this year's Wisconsin People and Ideas literary contests! On the prose side, Steve Fox (issue #9) was a finalist, September Holloway received honorable mention (issue #5, plus a member of our prose team ever since), and Dan Lyksett (issues #2, #4, & #8) placed third. Thanks to the The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters for running such an important contest.

CALL FOR ARTISTS:

Issue #10 is in the works, and we had a creative idea for the art that will accompany all the incredible writing in the journal. We are inviting artists of any background or skill level to submit depictions of the physical intersection of Barsow Street and Grand Avenue in Eau Claire in any medium (photography is fantastic, but we are hoping for some painting/drawing as well!) While we continue reading all the incredible submissions for issue #10, here's one more web feature from issue #9. "The Band in the Bank Vault" is a semi-autobiographical, partially fictionalized story from Timothy Lord's past. See if you can discern which parts are true!

FROM STREET CORNER TO PRINT: 10 years ago, the local literary journal Barstow & Grand was founded with the single intention to support writers of the Chippewa Valley and has continued to do so. The submission window for issue 10 is now open, from March 1 to April 30.
