Maryland History Day Maryland History Day is a program of Maryland Humanities. History Day is an exciting, history-based learning experience for students in grades 6 through 12.

Nearly 31,000 middle and high school students across Maryland participate in this history research project every year. In History Day, students learn about issues, ideas, people, and events in history and apply what they have learned through creative and original productions. Students begin working on their research projects at the start of the school year. District contests take place in February and March, culminating at the statewide Maryland History Day competition in May and finally, National History Day in June.

RESOURCE HIGHLIGHT: National Museum of Civil War Medicine

The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is a great resource for History Day projects on the Civil War era or on medical history topics. The museum has put together a guide on how students can research at the museum, and possible topics that could relate to the holdings of the museum.

Thank you to Citizens For Maryland Libraries for showing up at Maryland History Day on Saturday! Libraries are an integral part of this program, and we're thankful for our partnerships across the state.

Maryland libraries were well represented among the judges yesterday at Maryland History Day, including Maryland State Library Agency’s State Librarian Morgan Lehr Miller! Many thanks to Maryland Humanities and to all of the students who presented their projects!
