In partnership with the Library of Congress and the 2026 National Book Festival, join us THIS WEDNESDAY 8/26 at 6:00 p.m. for this “Festival Near You” virtual talk to celebrate Maryland’s Great Reads from Great Places.

Lisa D. Brathwaite is author of the youth pick MILES OF STYLE: EUNICE W. JOHNSON AND THE EBONY FASHION FAIR.

Elizabeth Evitts Dickinson is author of the adult pick CLAIRE MCCARDELL: THE DESIGNER WHO SET WOMEN FREE.

The two will meet to discuss race and feminism’s impact on American fashion culture through the 20th Century.

Each year, Maryland Humanities, as the Maryland Center for the Book Affiliate to The Library of Congress, selects two titles, one Adult and one Youth, as a representation of the state's literary heritage or talent.

Center affiliates will also attend the National Book Festival and host tables in the Roadmap to Reading, where attendees can visit each state and territory to learn about their literature, including their "Great Reads" selections.

Copies of each book will be sold at the festival, and the Library will make their "Great Reads" lists available as part of the National Book Festival.

Just a reminder that we are hosting a virtual One Maryland One Book Information Session tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. for partners of the program.

This month we will cover tools and resources to support fall programming, including a tour of the brand new 2026 OMOB Reader’s Guide questions and activities, a walkthrough of the Events Calendar Submission process, and a discussion of participant surveys in advance of August’s session. The session will be recorded.

Our third and final UMBC CoLab intern is Rebecca Mekasha! She will be working on the digital 2026 One Maryland One Book Reader's Guide with Akil and Keziah.

Rebecca is a Computer Engineering Major and Math Minor studying at UMBC.

Our next UMBC CoLab Intern is Keziah John! She is working on the digital 2026 One Maryland One Book Reader's Guide.

Keziah is a rising sophomore at UMBC majoring in Individualized Studies with a concentration in neuroscience. As a published author and avid reader, she considers One Maryland One Book as an amazing way to get people curious about learning and interested in reading more. She is so excited to be part of this project!

We are working with the UMBC Interdisciplinary CoLab interns this month. They are creating the digital 2026 One Maryland One Book Reader's Guide.

First, let's meet Akil Brathwaite! He is a rising junior majoring in Clinical Psychology and English. He is on the Communications and Technology track at UMBC. In his free time he enjoys reading, writing, playing video games, and biking.
