CHAI is seeking a Community Engagement Manager (CEM) to lead community-building efforts in the Cheswolde, Cross Country, and Glen neighborhoods of northwest Baltimore.

As the primary CHAI representative for these neighborhoods, the CEM will work closely with residents, neighborhood associations, schools, elected officials, city agencies, and community partners to advance initiatives that improve quality of life, strengthen civic engagement, and support neighborhood revitalization.

This position is ideal for a skilled macro social worker or community organizer who thrives on building relationships, fostering partnerships, supporting schools, and helping residents turn community goals into action.

Weinberg House has been successfully renovated to deliver a fresh, modern living experience in the heart of downtown Pikesville. Since moving back into their units in August, residents have been enjoying their beautifully updated apartments and community spaces.

We recently celebrated this accomplishment with a housewarming party for our residents, board members, staff from CHAI and the Franklin Group, and generous supporters who helped make this renovation project possible.

Guests enjoyed touring the property and had the opportunity to see new amenities and an open unit, featuring energy-efficient appliances, accessibility improvements, wood-inspired flooring, and generous closet space. Residents enjoyed the opportunity to open the doors to their community, share a meal, and have fun in a Sip & Paint workshop.

We're excited to welcome Moneece Borders to our team as the Community School Coordinator for Cross Country Elementary Middle School (CCEMS)!

Moneece brings more than 20 years of experience working with children and families. Most recently, she spent two years leading an after-school enrichment program. She is also a proud mother of three and a published children's book author.

As CHAI's Community School Coordinator, she will work onsite at CCEMS to directly support student achievement and parent engagement, and help bring additional resources, programs and partners to the school.

Since 1976, the Edward A. Myerberg Center has evolved alongside the older community members it serves. It began as the Northwest Senior Center, a small storefront on Reisterstown Road, and grew into the Myerberg Center, a vibrant 20,000-square-foot community hub on Fallstaff Road.

While much has changed over the last 50 years, its mission has remained the same: to inspire healthy aging through wellness, creativity, and connection.

After renovations at Weinberg House were completed last month, residents are back in their apartments and enjoying refreshed spaces throughout the building, from the beautiful second-floor lounge to brand-new kitchens and bathrooms.

Beyond the physical improvements, residents say the renovations have made daily life easier and strengthened their pride in the community. As one resident shared, “Having the building renovated shows me that the people responsible for this community really care.”

These improvements are part of CHAI’s 15-year Preservation Project, an effort to revitalize 15 affordable senior housing properties and preserve them for decades to come.

We are grateful to announce a $5 million grant from The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, payable over five years, to support this work to help ensure older adults can continue to live safely and affordably in the community.

On Monday, CHAI's team came together for a day of learning and connection.

We explored Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs for Communities and reflected on how our work strengthens the fabric of neighborhoods. We also used the DiSC model to better understand our different communication styles and how we work together effectively as a team.

Investing in our staff is an investment in our mission, and opportunities like this help us bring even greater intention to our work every day.

Home repairs can be a significant challenge for older adults living on fixed incomes.

When the cost of critical porch roof repairs exceeded the assistance available through CHAI's Senior Home Repair and Benefits program, our new Senior Home Repair Deferred Loan helped bridge the gap.

As the first completed deferred loan project, this milestone demonstrates how CHAI's programs work together to ensure older adults can maintain their homes, remain independent, and age in community.

Last week at the Edward A. Myerberg Center's Summer Social, we kicked off the Friends of the Myerberg Annual Giving Campaign!

The Friends Campaign is one of the most important ways our community supports the Myerberg's mission. Donations help us sustain our day-to-day operations, maintain our building, and support the 80+ programs and activities we offer each week for nearly 1,000 members.

We're excited to announce that our Friends of Myerberg Committee has already committed $24,000 to launch this year's effort.
