The goal of the project is to highlight everyday examples of individuals and communites that are inspiring others despite the challenges they face. The project will challenge partcipants to visualize what resiliency looks like and to capture its impact in an individual’s/community’s quest for acceptance and peace.

The Journey of Self-Discovery

Afrikan Youth Alchemy (AYA) is a youth development organization that uses African values, media advocacy, community-supported agriculture, and travel-study as tools to foster self-discovery and personal transformation among urban youth. We provide school-based arts residencies, afterschool programs, and community programs that challenge our youth to act as “Griots” - sacred storytellers that celebrate the collective identity of our people through film, photography, creative writing, poetry, visual art, and more. We are curators of culture - we provide opportunities for youth to tell powerful, compelling, and inspiring stories through multimedia platforms. We specialize in ‘experiential education’, which means our learning many times takes place in non-traditional spaces and places including international travel. We think outside the box to reach the youth where they are and elevate them through a diligent, painstaking process of self-discovery that ultimately leads our youth to discover new truths about themselves and their communities. We are the future of hands-on youth development!
