A grant doesn’t end with the person who receives it. It ripples outward.

KXAN recently sat down with renowned Austin producer and 2025 George Reiff Producers Grant recipient Stuart Sullivan to talk about community, collaboration, and what direct investment in music can make possible.

Sullivan used his $7,500 Sonic Guild grant to work with Austin artist Lindsay Beaver (Lindsay Beaver) on a new six-song project, giving them the resources to hire musicians, spend more time in the studio, and fully realize the songs. The project is already attracting management and label attention.

“My job is ultimately a service job. I am helping people achieve their goals,” Sullivan told KXAN.

That’s exactly why we invest in producers. Supporting the people behind the music means supporting the artists they work with, the musicians they hire, and the music communities they help sustain.

The music industry changed. Support for artists had to change too.

In this new SPIN feature, we explore how a community of music lovers, donors, and partners is helping independent musicians build sustainable careers through artist grants, producer funding, and tour support.

For more than a decade, Sonic Guild members have gathered at intimate showcases, discovered emerging artists, and helped direct funding to the musicians they believe in, investing millions of dollars into local music communities along the way.

It’s a simple idea: if we want great music tomorrow, we have to invest in it today.

Last night felt like a glimpse into the future of Sonic Guild Austin.

We gathered early to welcome our new Executive Director, Bobby Garza, into the community before settling in for an incredible evening of music from Jennifer Foster & The Audacity and Nick Garza’s Get Along.

From Jennifer Foster’s powerhouse vocals and deep grooves to Nick Garza’s thoughtful, wide-open Texas songwriting, the night reminded us exactly why this community exists in the first place: to bring people together through music that moves us.

Thank you to everyone who came out, shared conversation, raised a glass, and helped make Bobby feel at home in this next chapter of Sonic Guild Austin.

📢Sonic Guild Austin has a new Executive Director: Bobby Garza.

A longtime Austin music and cultural leader, Bobby brings more than 25 years of experience supporting artists, producing iconic events, and building community around live music, from Fun Fun Fun Fest and Levitation to The Drop-In at the Long Center.

“There are only a handful of positions in Austin that are directly impactful to musicians,” Bobby shared. “Sonic Guild has created an incredible model that can be built upon to further help provide avenues for artists to succeed and hone their craft.”

Bobby steps into the role following 18 months of leadership from Dave Verratti, who helped guide the Austin chapter through an important period of transition with care and belief in the mission.

Since 2013, Sonic Guild has invested more than $7.3 million into local music, supporting over 300 bands and more than 1,000 musicians across Austin, Seattle, and Denver.

Join us in welcoming Bobby into this next chapter for Sonic Guild Austin.
