Congregation Kol Halev-Austin

Congregation Kol Halev-Austin A progressive, independent Jewish congregation in Austin, TX. We are small and haymish (warm), musica Music is a crucial part of what we do.

Kol Halev (Voice of the Heart) is a small, progressive, independent community of free thinkers, seekers, and folks who love being Jewish--whether it's been a lifelong celebration or a more recent discovery. We are led by Rabbi Lev Baesh and receive cantorial support from Cantor Robbi Sherwin and Amy Adler. We meet twice a month for Friday night services or Shabbat dinners that are upbeat, inspirat

ional, provocative, and enlightening. We gather for most holidays and for regular social events and learning opportunities throughout the year. So is good food and a good hike in the Austin outdoors. Our engagement with prayer and Torah is open, creative, interactive, and relevant. We are a welcoming space for all those wishing to grow in their Jewish identities and be accepted for who they are. Join us for a service, get to know our rabbi and our lay leadership. We are all available to help you on your journey and welcome you into our shared exploration and celebration of modern Jewish life in Austin.

Rabbi Kerry Baker, z"l, Founder, shiva minyon info.

We are sad to announce that Rabbi Kerry Baker, founder of our congregation, passed away early this morning.

In 1997, Rabbi Baker founded Congregation Kol Halev with a vision of "post-denominational Judaism." Instead of following one particular denomination, he encouraged us to wrestle with a broad variety of sources and find what was meaningful to us. Drawing on everything from Chasidic stories to text study to guided meditations and pop psychology, he challenged us to craft our own spiritual practice, with the process being just as important as the result. Even as the congregation has moved on with the help of other spiritual leaders, his vision continues to guide and inspire us.

Rabbi-Cantor Robbi Sherwin, who was Rabbi Baker's partner in leading Kol Halev for a decade will lead a Shiva Minyan Wednesday night at 7:30pm over Zoom (information, including link is below). Click here for information about other minyanim.
