“Miami is home to extraordinary organizations and leaders working every day to help residents find stable housing, but the process is often harder and slower than it should be,” said Valeria Perez-Ferreiro, founding executive director of GreenLight Fund Miami , in the press release.

“Our investment in Housing Connector will bring a proven solution to accelerate and streamline the great work our nonprofits are doing — making it easier for case managers to connect people to available homes and for landlords to say yes,” Perez-Ferreiro said. “This investment brings us closer to a future where more Miami-Dade residents can quickly find not just housing, but the stability, dignity, and opportunity everyone deserves.”

A client arrived at the Front Door with her 13-year-old son, who has special needs. They had been living in a Smart Car for the past three months. Marla, the housing advocate assisted by applying for funds to cover the application and administrative fees for a rental unit. Although the client did not qualify for the first unit they applied for, she received a reimbursement check for the administrative fees submitted.

The client returned to Reclaim for help finding another rental unit. This time, she was accepted, and she and her son have transitioned from homelessness into an apartment through Housing Connector.

Our Story

On any given night, there are over 12,000 people without a home in our community. We believe this is unacceptable. More importantly, we believe this is a problem that can be solved.

Our story starts with a fundamental belief that increased housing capacity in our community will lead to reduced rates of homelessness. Developing additional housing takes time, yet there are individuals in need of a home today. But what if there is currently capacity that has been left untapped.

As more and more private units are developed, vacancy rates in Seattle/King County begin to rise. A vacant unit is a loss for all parties in our community.
