Today, we pause to honor Juneteenth, a day that marks the delayed but powerful announcement of freedom for enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, in 1865.

As a Chamber, we recognize that the fight for liberation did not end on June 19th, 1865. The work of justice continues, especially at the intersection of race, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

Today, we uplift the voices and contributions of Black LGBTQIA+ leaders who have always been at the heart of the fight for equality — from Marsha P. Johnson to those breaking barriers today. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

We also celebrate the Black-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who continue to shape Austin and Central Texas through innovation, leadership, and economic impact.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Josh Baer.

Josh’s vision, leadership, and unwavering support for entrepreneurs helped shape Austin into the thriving innovation hub it is today. Through his work with Capital Factory, he championed countless founders, startups, and innovators, helping turn bold ideas into successful businesses and strengthening our local economy along the way.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Capital Factory community during this difficult time.
