It is with great sadness to hear of the passing of writer, lecturer, political activist, feminist organizer, and two time guest of Overheard with Evan Smith, Gloria Steinem.

In our 2012 episode, when asked what message she'd like to leave young women of today in regards to "the world they're about to take over" she let it be known that they should have "higher standards" and that there is still work to be done. As you can see, Gloria was a true trailblazer who devoted her life to advocating for women's rights and equality. We send our deepest condolences to Gloria's family and friends, along with our profound gratitude for her decades of work and courage to fight for a better tomorrow.

We lost a true American treasure this week, Dolly Parton, songwriter, storyteller, philanthropist, and one of the most beloved entertainers this country has ever known. Across seven decades, she gave us music, laughter, and an unmatched generosity of spirit that made millions feel like family, whether through her songs, her screen roles, or her tireless work supporting literacy and community through the Dollywood Foundation. In her honor, we're highlighting programming that celebrates her extraordinary life and legacy, including "Dolly Parton: Here I Am". We hope this title offers a meaningful way to celebrate the woman who taught us all to let our light shine.💗 🦋
