There is no power like that of mother earth, la tierra madre. It’s been an honor to join forces with the Sierra Club Military Outdoors program, Outings program, Texas Sierra Club and Far Flung Outdoor Center to bring environmentalists and veterans together from across the country to see, first hand, what we’re defending in West Texas.

Ancient land gives willing hearts a power to heal, grow, and endure. What we give back in return is up to us. And it has been an honor to support this team as they start their journey to explore that question as they embark on a 5-day river trip through Boquillas canyon and lands slated for border security infrastructure development.

The fight to stop the destruction of these sacred lands continues. We all have a part to play. Please follow Texas Sierra Club so together we can keep the pressure on.

Good news for people & the environment!

The PUC ruled today that Southwestern Public Service Company can proceed with closing its Tolk coal plant near Lubbock and constructing renewable energy and battery storage to provide reliable, clean electricity to Southwest Power Pool customers.

This is a huge win for water conservation. According to Sierra Club’s new analysis Watts Wasting Texas Water, in 2024, Tolk used 1.2 billion gallons of groundwater. As recently as 2015, the plant consumed 3.3 billion gallons of water in a single year. Renewables use negligible water resources.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin just announced on Monday that the EPA’s rollback of the Endangerment Finding for power plants while in Houston. The Endangerment Finding is the EPA’s scientific determination that greenhouse gas emissions pose a threat to public health and the environment. It provides a legal foundation for reducing carbon pollution.

Texas already leads the nation in carbon pollution from fossil fuel power plants. And now, as the AI data center boom keeps coal plants online and expands the buildout of methane gas plants, this rollback would mean even more pollution in our air, fewer protections for communities, and more natural disasters from climate change. Communities across Texas are already dealing with extreme heat, flooding, drought, and the health impacts of air pollution. We can not afford an EPA that gives the fossil fuel industry everything on its "wish list" at the expense of our health and environment.

The stakes for Texas are huge. We must keep coming together and pushing back.
