Every drop tells a story. 🤍

While 85.7% of babies in the U.S. are breastfed at some point, only 27.9% are exclusively breastfed through 6 months. For many families, barriers, medical challenges, and lack of support can make reaching breastfeeding goals difficult.

That’s where donor milk makes a difference.

Donated human milk provides a safe, life-saving bridge for fragile and medically vulnerable infants when their own mother’s milk is unavailable. Every ounce donated helps nourish babies, support families, and give the tiniest patients the best possible start.

Thank you to every donor, healthcare provider, and advocate helping make this work possible. Together, we’re creating healthier beginnings—one drop at a time. 💙🩷

To every mother who has donated, pumped through the exhaustion, comforted through the chaos, and given so selflessly — thank you. 💗

And to every baby receiving donor milk, we’re honored to be a small part of your story. Your strength, growth, and resilience are why this work matters every single day.

Behind every ounce donated is love, late nights, sacrifice, and care. We see you, we appreciate you, and we’re endlessly grateful for this community of mothers helping mothers. 🍼✨

Maternal health conversations need to include mental health.

According to the CDC, su***de and accidental overdose are among the leading causes of death in the first year postpartum. Research continues to show that many pregnancy-related mental health deaths are preventable with earlier intervention, support systems, screening, and continued access to care.

The postpartum period can be overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally complex — especially because struggles don’t always happen immediately after birth. In fact, the highest risk period for maternal su***de is often 6–9 months postpartum.

Supporting mothers means supporting the whole postpartum journey.

Future leaders in STEM spent the week at MMBA 💙

This week, we welcomed Miranda and Frankie from the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders through their Pathway Internship Program!

During their internship, they explored the many sides of milk banking — from milk processing and donor screening to recipient programs, breastfeeding education, and research. They also completed and presented a data analysis project examining differences in milk composition throughout the postpartum journey.

We’re grateful for opportunities to share the impact of donor human milk and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals, researchers, advocates, and leaders.

Thank you for spending the week with us, Miranda & Frankie 💫

Human milk banking is gaining national attention, and for good reason.

Recently, bipartisan lawmakers introduced legislation recognizing the importance of donor human milk and the vital role milk banks play in supporting infant health and NICU care. Donor milk can be lifesaving for premature and medically fragile babies when a parent’s own milk is unavailable.

At Mothers’ Milk Bank At Austin, we’re proud to be part of the network helping provide safe, pasteurized donor milk to hospitals and families throughout Texas and beyond.

Every donor helps make this possible.
