This week at the AFS Cinema we have the movie that seemingly everyone is talking about. That's not so unusual, except that it's a film that was made 55 years ago, Ken Russell's THE DEVILS. Once you see this one you'll understand why it was so widely banned and is only now seeing an uncut release in the US. Masterful, terrifying, bleakly funny, and unabashedly blasphemous - take our word for this last part. This gorgeous new restoration is one of the cinematic events of the year. Playing all week and then some at AFS.

Ken Russell's THE DEVILS opens Friday, October 16, at AFS Cinema. Tickets and more info via the link in our bio.

“An overwhelming and vital work of investigative journalism.” — Slant Magazine

Filmed at night from Tel Aviv rooftops, this investigative documentary examines the civilian casualties of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and the systems behind targeted killings of Palestinians. The title refers to an acronym used within the Israeli Defense Forces that means “civilian casualties.” There have been calls within the Israeli government to revoke the citizenship of the filmmakers and the 24 whistleblowers whose stories provide the framework for the investigation, even as NAZA has screened throughout the world at major film festivals.

NAZA opens this Friday, October 9, at AFS Cinema. Tickets and showtimes via the link in our bio.

“I doubt any movie, especially not any documentary, will make me laugh harder this year, and many of its emotional grace notes land fully. Even with my high expectations, THE HISTORY OF CONCRETE is a small triumph.” — The Hollywood Reporter

NYC documentarian John Wilson looks to the bedrock of his beloved New York City for inspiration and structure in THE HISTORY OF CONCRETE, now playing at AFS Cinema.

🌟 Big news for Texas filmmakers! 🌟

Austin Film Society is announcing two major milestones:
1️⃣ The launch of Texas Lights and its inaugural recipients of $50,000+ catalytic grants
2️⃣ The recipients of the 30th annual AFS Grant for Feature Films

AFS announces Texas Lights, a new program that provides $50,000+ catalytic grants to Texas filmmakers advancing bold, artistically significant work. • Writer/director Diffan Sina Norman

Texas Lights is supported by the RWJFoundation, the Moody Foundation, and Texas Lights members, with Lone Star Film Society (Lone Star Film Festival) and Round Top Film Festival serving as official partners.

• Sachin Dheeraj Mudigonda, A SILENT WAVE
• Camille Morales-Zayas, ALMA
• Keith Maitland, GODS OF FIRE
