We asked parents why they chose NYOS for their family, and this is what they said:
"So initially, we came to NYOS because we didn't like our zone school, and we wanted something that was a little bit more supportive, with smaller districts. Also, I should say diversity was important. From the feedback I was hearing from people who sent their kids here, it was very diverse. I also liked it when I came in for a tour, seeing the fact that there were teachers and families from various different backgrounds. My kids have representation through the teachers. They can identify with some of the leaders within the school. I think the world is so much more diverse than just black people, white people, and Hispanic people, and I feel like when I came here, I saw on the very first day families who felt comfortable wearing their hijabs. There were Asian families. NYOS is like the melting pot that the world really is, and I saw that in the very first hour." Arly-Assyria Alexander

Preguntamos a los padres por qué eligieron NYOS para su familia, y esto es lo que dijeron.
Inicialmente, llegamos a NYOS porque no nos gustaba la escuela que nos correspondía por zona y buscábamos un entorno que ofreciera más apoyo y grupos más reducidos. Además, debo mencionar que la diversidad era un factor importante. Por los comentarios de otras personas que llevaban a sus hijos aquí, sabía que el ambiente era muy diverso. También me gustó ver, durante la visita a las instalaciones, que había maestros y familias de diversos orígenes. Mis hijos se ven representados en el profesorado; pueden identificarse con algunos de los líderes de la escuela. Creo que el mundo es mucho más diverso que la simple clasificación de personas negras, blancas o hispanas; de hecho, desde el primer día vi familias que se sentían cómodas usando sus hiyabs y también familias asiáticas. Es como ese crisol de culturas que realmente representa al mundo, y eso fue algo que percibí desde la primera hora.
