Ghisallo Cycling Initiative Helping people access the world by bike. The Ghisallo Cycling Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2011 and based in Austin, Texas.

Our goal is not only to provide Austin youth with supervised access to outdoor physical activity, but to help them develop into self-sufficient riders who have the skills and knowledge to use their bicycles for transportation without depending on adults. Our core tenets are opportunity, access, and equity and our programs focus on exploration, navigation, and transportation. Our primary clients are are low-income under-served students to whom we provide semester-long, after-school Bike Clubs, a free Youth Bike Shop and Earn-A-Bike program, Bicycle Rodeos, and maintenance and safety clinics. Since 2013 we have served over 5,600 youth participants via Bike Clubs and Earn-A-Bike programs and over 2,800 via Bike Rodeos. In the Fall of 2015 we expanded to 20 sites across Austin offering 40 hours of after-school programming per week.

Skip the car. Catch the bus, try out a Lime Glider, and turn your journey into part of the adventure!

Join Ghisallo Cycling Initiative and Get There ATX for a free snorkel tour with Save Our Springs Alliance—but there’s a catch: you’ve got to earn your ticket. 😎

Here’s how it works:
Take public transit from your home to our downtown meetup at the Seaholm Water Intake Facility. Document your journey with a photo, video, observation, or mini “transit story” along the way. Meet the crew, swap stories, then we’ll roll together to the pool on Lime Gliders courtesy of Lime Micromobility.
Think of it as a scavenger hunt, except the clues are hiding in your commute.
We’ll walk you through everything you need to have a successful self-guided transit tour and be fully supported by Ghisallo Cycling Initiative staff in navigating the streets on Lime Gliders.
You’ll receive more detailed instructions for participation upon registration.

Time to Put The FUN in Fungus!

Grab your bike and join us for an unforgettable adventure through Central Austin! Ghisallo Cycling Initiative and Central Texas Mycological Society are joining forces to put the FUN in fungus with an urban adventure through the green pockets, hidden corners, and surprisingly squishy underworld of the city. We’ll cruise, explore, learn to spot local fungi, swap mushroom lore, and generally commune with the mycelial internet.

The goal - score some Chicken-of-the-Woods mushrooms (Laetiporus)! Whether you’re a seasoned forager or just starting out, this is all about sharpening your ID skills and learning in a fun, hands-on way. No expertise or membership required—just good vibes and an open mind!

🚲 Casual cruise at a party pace with plenty of stops for foraging

Do you like riding bikes at a casual pace, yapping with your pals and waving at strangers? Do you also have weekday morning availability? If you answered yes to all those questions then we’ve got a fabulous opportunity for you! (Bonus points if you also have experience marshaling group rides, but we’d love to teach you the ropes if not!)

We’re looking for Trike Club Assistants to help out with our Golden Rollers rides for our fall season - 12 weeks beginning the first week October. We have two clubs on the east side and one on the south. You’ll always be paired with experienced GCI staff and we guarantee you’ll have a good time.

Woot woot Wooten! We stan a new bike lane!

Join us on Sat 9/12 at 9am to break in the new bike lanes along the Burrell corridor in the Wooten neighborhood - our group ride will have a route option for everyone! Short and sweet for those with littles or on a time crunch, or a little longer tour of the neighborhood for the folks interested in exploring firsthand how this new corridor connects to the rest of the existing infrastructure to get you to the places you go, safely.

Are you scary passionate about Halloween and looking to show off your spooky decorating skills? Ghisallo Cycling Initiative is looking for bloodcurdling-ly brilliant halloween enthusiasts to decorate and run tables at our yearly car free Halloween event: Trick or Treat on the Trail!

Halloween is the most dangerous night of the year for pedestrians, so ditch the streets and hit the trail instead! We’ll have a section of Boggy Creek Trail decked out in spooky attire, candy will be abundant and you can join the Monster Mash Dance Party at the Pavilion.

Announcing the first of two Tour de Splash rides of the season! Hosted in collaboration with Bat City Biking!

Join us for a leisurely two-wheeled tour of some of Austin’s finest watery wonders. We’ll pedal, splash, cool off, and generally behave like overgrown summer camp kids as we make our way across town.
What’s on the agenda?

🌊 Splash pad hopping
🏊 Optional pool dips
🚲 Casual group ride pace (no Tour de France ambitions required)
🧺 Picnic lunch in the shade
🎲 A self-guided round of Barton Springs BINGO!

When: Saturday June 27th , 10am meet up. 10:30 Wheels down.
Where: Quack’s 43rd

A friend
A swimsuit and towel
Water bottle
Sunscreen
A sense of adventure and a healthy appreciation for public splashing.

An opportunity for your kid to be a trailblazer, in every sense of the word. Announcing the very first Ghisallo MTB camp!

Urban Trails Youth Leadership Academy (UTYLA) is inspired by the Spanish phrase, “Ser útil” - “To Be Useful.” This camp is based on the idea that every one of us can be a resource in the community.

🚲 What: An off-road / mountain-biking-focused camp, with additional road and gravel elements incorporated as a means to access city parks and greenbelt trails.

✨ Why: The goal of this camp is to learn in-depth Urban/MTB bicycle riding and safety skills, along with the associated TX State Laws. Students will also develop an eye for trail design and a voice for trail advocacy. Bonus lesson - shred the gnar.

🗓️ When: Meets Tues-Fri, July 14-17, 9am - 12:30pm

🚲 Who: Designed and prioritized for Ages 12-16 (others may apply for consideration, but without guarantee of admission)

🛘 Where: The camp will take place at four locations over the course of four days.

💸 Cost: Camp is FREE, but we do require an official application and short essay for approval and admission.
