History was made at the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
Over two unforgettable nights and nearly sold out audiences, patrons witnessed something few, if any, symphony orchestras have ever accomplished: performing George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue alongside Steinway’s Spirio high definition player piano technology, recreating the piece exactly as Gershwin performed it in 1925. Every keystroke, dynamic, and tempo was authentically Gershwin.
The evening also featured Morton Gould’s American Ballads, Charles Ives’ Symphony No. 1, and Aaron Copland’s Rodeo, accompanied by stunning visuals from Westwater Arts.
We also honored A*O violinist Richard Kilmer on his retirement after 37 remarkable years with the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Thank you, Richard, for your artistry, dedication, and lasting impact on our orchestra and community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this extraordinary and historic close to the 115th Masterworks Series season.
Special thanks to presenting sponsor The Bancroft Initiative, concert sponsors Linda and Nick van Bavel and David Booth and Heather Pesanti, and guest artist sponsors The Jolly Family Trust.
