Peter Bay, the illustrious music director of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, talked to the residents of Maravilla at the Domain, and his monumental final season of 2026-2027.

He also gave a rousing lesson in how to conduct an orchestra. Maravilla, we look forward to seeing you, and everyone else, next season!

History was made at the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

Over two unforgettable nights and nearly sold out audiences, patrons witnessed something few, if any, symphony orchestras have ever accomplished: performing George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue alongside Steinway’s Spirio high definition player piano technology, recreating the piece exactly as Gershwin performed it in 1925. Every keystroke, dynamic, and tempo was authentically Gershwin.
The evening also featured Morton Gould’s American Ballads, Charles Ives’ Symphony No. 1, and Aaron Copland’s Rodeo, accompanied by stunning visuals from Westwater Arts.

We also honored A*O violinist Richard Kilmer on his retirement after 37 remarkable years with the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Thank you, Richard, for your artistry, dedication, and lasting impact on our orchestra and community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this extraordinary and historic close to the 115th Masterworks Series season.

Special thanks to presenting sponsor The Bancroft Initiative, concert sponsors Linda and Nick van Bavel and David Booth and Heather Pesanti, and guest artist sponsors The Jolly Family Trust.

Stephen Girko, our principal clarinetist, loves playing this iconic glissando from Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. And Henry the dachshund loves to sing along.

Unfortunately, dogs aren’t allowed at this weekend’s concert.

But who’s gonna tell him? (We won’t.)

Come see works by the classic American composers Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, Morton Gould, and of course George Gershwin, this weekend, May 15th and 16th, at the Long Center.

The Austin Symphony Orchestra plays Rhapsody in Blue with the composer himself, George Gershwin, through the technology of Steinway Spirio.

🎹 Audiences will be amazed and even surprised by Gerswhin's own astonishing tempos and flashy playing of this iconic American Masterpiece, just in time to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of America.

🎶 Come hear this masterpiece like you've never heard it before! 🎵

📅 May 15th and 16th, at the Long Center.
