🧇 LIVE FROM LONGVIEW: MID-DAY REPORT

Four waffles down and our competitors are learning that the Waffle House Challenge is a game of both physical and mental endurance.

The Texas Bank and Trust team came prepared, setting the scene with a tablecloth and balloons, while friends have been stopping by throughout the morning to show their support and sign Rogers Pope, Jr.'s now-famous waffle hat.

Another $2,000 has been raised for the IBAT PAC just this morning!

Texas Bank & Trust Chairman and CEO and past IBAT Chairman Rogers Pope, Jr. and IBAT President and CEO Christopher Williston VI, CAE remain in the fight.

🏟️ LIVE FROM LONGVIEW: The Waffle House Challenge is officially underway.

Texas Bank and Trust Chairman and CEO and past IBAT Chairman Rogers Pope Jr. and IBAT President and CEO Christopher Williston have taken their seats, the coffee is flowing and the clock is running.

The challenge: 24 hours inside Waffle House, with one hour knocked off the clock for every waffle eaten.

Rogers is taking on the challenge after Texas Bank & Trust employees raised more than $25,000 for the IBAT PAC, and Christopher volunteered to join him in what can only be described as an extraordinary show of support and questionable breakfast-related judgment.

Yesterday, IBAT submitted comments to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) urging the agency to modernize mortgage disclosure and rescission requirements that continue to create operational challenges for community banks and unnecessary delays for borrowers.

Yesterday, IBAT filed a comment letter with the Federal Reserve Board in response to Proposed Revisions to the Federal Reserve Policy on Payment System Risk and the Guidelines for Account and Services Requests.

In the comment letter, IBAT stressed its support for responsible payments innovation while simultaneously expressing concerns that allowing non-federally insured institutions direct or near-direct access to Federal Reserve payment services raises safety-and-soundness, consumer protection, illicit finance and competitive-equity concerns. Congratulations to Brett Murphy of Whitley Penn, LLP, on being named the recipient of IBAT's 2026 Excellence in Leadership Award.

This honor recognizes Leadership Division members who have demonstrated outstanding service, volunteerism and a lasting commitment to strengthening community banking in Texas.

Over the past 14 years, Brett has served in numerous leadership roles, recruited more than 50 new Leadership Division members and helped establish the Congressional Visit Scholarship Program, creating opportunities for the next generation of community banking leaders.
