A major step forward for online child safety in Texas.

As of June 4, Apple has begun implementing age verification requirements in Texas in compliance with the App Store Accountability Act (SB 2420). New Apple account holders in Texas must verify their age, and minors now require parental involvement and consent for app downloads and purchases. Similar requirements apply to app developers and marketplaces operating in the state.

This didn't happen by accident.

NOWTX was proud to be part of the coalition of advocates, parents, lawmakers, and child safety organizations that worked tirelessly to advance policies that put parents back in the driver's seat and create stronger protections for children online.

For years, parents have carried the burden of navigating an increasingly complex digital world. Today marks meaningful progress toward greater transparency, accountability, and age-appropriate online experiences for Texas families.

While there is still more work ahead, this implementation represents an important milestone in protecting children from online harm and exploitation.

The lawsuit claims the platform failed to provide adequate protections for minors and allowed dangerous activity to occur within its ecosystem.

🚨 Victory for Texas Kids 🚨

Big Tech tried to block Texas' App Store Accountability Act (SB 2420), but yesterday the Fifth Circuit temporarily stayed the injunction, allowing this critical child safety law to move forward.

The threats facing children online—AI manipulation, digital coercion, anonymous predators, and exploitative algorithms—are too urgent to ignore. Parents deserve transparency, and children deserve stronger protections.

At Not on Our Watch Texas, we believe app store accountability is a critical step toward creating a safer digital world for kids.

Our children cannot wait for the courts or for more harm to occur. Congress should pass the App Store Accountability Act and KOSA now.
