🥗 On World Food Day, we’re reminding our community that support for families can take many forms. At El Buen, we offer food at our on-site pantry every Tuesday and Thursday, and through mobile pantries on Fridays. We’ll also distribute diapers on Wednesday, October 21, from 8:30 to 10 am at 7000 Woodhue Drive.

Another day at El Buen 👻

Every pantry day begins long before our neighbors arrive. Food has to be secured, partners and volunteers coordinated, supplies prepared, and a welcoming space made ready at each location.

Juan Rosas, our Food Pantry Operations Manager, leads that work at our on-site pantry and mobile locations. He makes sure we have food to distribute, builds relationships with partners and volunteers, and helps every neighbor feel welcome. Rosa Caroll, our Basic Needs Coordinator, works alongside Juan across these operations, from coordinating food and supplies to supporting volunteers and serving our neighbors.

Much of their work happens out of sight, but its impact is felt at every distribution. Juan and Rosa, thank you for the dedication and care you bring to our community each day.

We’re also grateful to The Rotary Club, our October sponsor, for supporting our food access work and helping us share the stories of the people behind it.

Cada día de despensa comienza mucho antes de que lleguen nuestros vecinos. Hay que conseguir los alimentos, coordinar a los colaboradores y voluntarios, preparar los materiales y dejar listo un espacio acogedor en cada lugar.

Juan Rosas, nuestro Gerente de Operaciones de la Despensa de Alimentos, dirige este trabajo en nuestra despensa de El Buen y en las despensas móviles. Se asegura de que tengamos alimentos para repartir, mantiene buenas relaciones con los colaboradores y voluntarios, y ayuda a que cada vecino se sienta bienvenido. This weekend, the El Buen Samaritano familia had the incredible honor of celebrating our CEO, Dr. Rosamaria Murillo, as she received the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award at Celebrando Austin.

Throughout her career, Dr. Murillo has dedicated herself to strengthening communities, advocating for Latino families, and creating pathways of opportunity for generations to come. One of the most beautiful moments of the evening came during Dr. Murillo’s remarks, when she honored the people at the heart of her own story including her parents, her husband, and her sons. It was a powerful reminder that behind every legacy are generations of love, sacrifice, and family.

This year’s theme, Generaciones: The First. The Next. The Future., could not have been more fitting. Dr. Murillo’s life and leadership embody what it means to honor those who came before us while creating opportunities for those who will come next.

Dr. Murillo, we are so proud to celebrate you. Thank you for the vision, courage, and corazón you bring to El Buen and to our Central Texas community. Your legacy is already visible in the people you have inspired, the systems you have helped change, and the futures you continue to help build.
