Our neighbors experiencing homelessness are still our neighbors

Today trusted outreach workers were providing food and basic necessities to neighbors living outside at Barton Springs Saloon when a man claiming the property told them to get off his property & told them “don’t feed the animals” as they go through the trash. WTAF???! This mans hate shows how some people think.

So let’s get one thing straight. Experiencing homelessness does not remove someone from our community.
Our neighbors living outside are part of Austin
They have families and friends
They care for their pets and one another
They have belongings they are trying to keep safe and days when they need somebody else to show up

Community does not end at somebody’s front door

Businesses are part of our community too
How businesses treat our neighbors matters
And where we eat shop and spend our money is one of the ways each of us gets to decide what kind of community we want to support

So we are going to keep doing what we do….

Sharing meals & water
And we encourage you to do the same,
Ask what someone needs
Share what you can

It’s National Voter Registration Day y’all but tomorrow works too!

TEXAS - October 5 is the deadline to register for the November 3 election.

So check your registration. Seriously. Even if you’re pretty sure you’re registered, it takes a minute to make sure everything is right, especially if you’ve moved or changed your name.

And check on your people too. Your kids who just turned 18. Your neighbor who moved. Your friend who keeps saying they need to get around to it.

VoteTexas.gov is where to check your status, update your information or find out how to register.

We are building a Community of Care because taking care of each other happens in a whole lot of ways.

This is one of them.

Sunday Solidarity Meals prepared this weekend. SĂĄndwiches, fruit and water ready to distribute by AMA neighbors to our unhoused community neighbors.

As enforcement increases, families are separated and left behind.

There is no just reason for this!

Day in and day out, we constantly hear that all that is happening is “injusto,” in other words this is all unjust.

Being on the ground, we connect families with resources, one being economic stability.

As soon as funding comes in, funds get into the hands of our neighbors within 24-72 hrs.

Texas voters: check your voter registration status now—even if you checked recently, haven’t moved, or are certain you’re registered.

Don’t just look for your name. Check your current status and address to make sure everything is correct.

If your status says SUSPENSE, you are still registered to vote. It generally means your county needs confirmation of your residential address. Don’t panic, but don’t ignore it or wait until Election Day to address it.

Not registered yet? Texas does not offer fully online voter registration. You can complete the application online, but you must then print it, sign it, and mail or deliver it to your county voter registrar.

The voter-registration deadline for the November 3, 2026 election is October 5, 2026. If you’re mailing your application, send it early. USPS collection dates do not always match postmark dates.

And let’s be clear about what is on the line.
Housing. Healthcare. Public education. Reproductive freedom. LGBTQIA+ rights. Immigration policy. Policing. Climate and disaster response. Whether public money is invested in communities or systems that continue harming them.
These decisions shape who receives protection, whose needs are funded, whose families are supported, and whose voices are heard. Voting is not the only way we build power or protect one another—but it is one of the tools available to us, and we should not surrender it through preventable registration problems.

Help someone register. Send this to your family, friends, neighbors, and group chats. Don’t assume everything is fine—check now while there is still time to correct it.

ATX is under a heat advisory. Please take care of yourself, keep yourself, kids and pets cool and hydrated, and check on your neighbors—especially elders, people living outside, and anyone without reliable access to AC.

Community care is something all of us can practice. Carry extra water. Share resources. Check on someone. Join our Summer Solidarity outreach—or organize something in your own neighborhood.

Today, while City Council considers which social services to cut while increasing APD funding yet again, right outside City Hall another neighbor is being targeted by local law enforcement and ICE.

Increasing funding for policing does not keep our communities safe.

Join us in sending a message to the council members who represent you. Our priorities are clear: Invest in housing. Invest in healthcare. Invest in community-led solutions. Invest in the people doing the work to keep our neighbors safe.

No more funding for APD.
