Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation AVLF is a legal nonprofit standing with low-income Atlantans as they demand safe and stable housing and break free from intimate partner abuse.

AVLF's goal is to provide legal services, within the scope of our programs, to the underrepresented in the Atlanta Community. AVLF develops and coordinates programs that provide legal representation, education, and advocacy for at-risk, low-income individuals by tapping the enthusiasm and commitment of volunteer legal professionals to address the unmet civil legal needs in the Atlanta community.

David fell behind on rent. Then came the eviction notice, and a landlord seeking over $7,300 in back rent. He didn't know how to prepare, what to say, or how to face a judge alone. AVLF was there for David.

An AVLF attorney prepared David before his hearing, so when he walked into that courtroom, he wasn't alone. The result: a consent agreement. David would vacate, and the landlord dropped the entire $7,372.91 claim.

No judgment followed him into his next chapter, no black mark trailing him through background checks and housing applications for years to come. Because AVLF was there, David got a clean slate.

"This last Saturday at the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation's Saturday Lawyer clinic at Pittsburgh Yards® was a real emotional, full-circle moment for me -- and for my oldest daughter. Sixteen years ago, I ran my first Saturday clinic as a younger attorney at AVLF. Over the years since then, my daughters were by my side at AVLF legal clinics, rallies, and outreach events. And last weekend, my oldest was there again (being an incredible help with childcare, by the way) as I got back in the saddle, helped with logistics, and even was a lawyer again, interviewing a client who we are going to help. Thanks to Sarah Babcock and her amazing team, the program has evolved and improved greatly over the years, but what hasn't changed is Saturday Lawyer's critical place in the Atlanta legal system -- and in my family's heart."
