1 life ended by gun violence is 1 too many.🧡

Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day & we wear orange to honor every life impacted by gun violence.

We remember the victims.
We stand with the survivors.
We hold space for the families, friends, and communities carrying grief that words can never fully explain.

Gun violence leaves a lasting impact far beyond the moment. It changes lives, alters futures, and creates wounds that many people carry silently for years.

Today is a day of remembrance, awareness, and action.
A day to say their names, honor their stories, and continue the work of building safer, stronger communities.

For those of us who have been personally impacted, this day is more than a campaign — it is deeply personal.

Today, we wear orange.
Today, we remember.
Today, we honor.

🧡 June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month.

Today I’m honoring my brother, Michael (“Mike”) J. Hatchell 🕊️ taken by gun violence at 20.

I was 15 when it happened—still in school, still a kid—trying to carry grief and trauma with no support and nowhere safe to put what I was feeling. I know what it’s like to sit in class hurting on the inside and still be expected to “push through.”

That’s why I created Make Justice Healing Incorporated (MJH).
Because the support I needed as a teen is the support we’re building now—for youth and families impacted by gun violence.

This month, we remember.
This month, we honor.
This month, we show up—for victims, survivors, and every young person who deserves safety and a future.

🧡 In memory of Mike. In solidarity with every family.. In action for our youth.

If you’ve been impacted by gun violence, drop the name of someone you’d like to honor today—and throughout this month. 🧡

We closed out MindShift Circles with our Westlake scholars today and my heart is FULL. 💜✨

We celebrated with a breakfast reception, our amazing volunteers, certificates, and wellness swag bags for each scholar. S/O .naturals for sponsoring wellness self care kits for all our scholars.

This program has been such a beautiful experience. From the conversations to the growth to the feedback from our scholars, we’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is to create safe spaces where youth can build confidence, communicate better, set boundaries, and feel supported in their emotional wellness.

So proud of our scholars. So grateful for our volunteers, donors & sponsors. Looking forward to next school year & continuing our commitment to student wellbeing.

The impact was real 💯

Today we honor the life and legacy of Big Mike on what would have been his 52nd birthday.

His life, his memory, and the impact of his death are the reason Make Justice Healing was born.

MJH exists to turn pain into purpose and to create spaces of healing, support, and hope for youth and communities navigating trauma.

Today, we remember Big Mike with love, and we continue this work in his honor.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Big Mike.
Your legacy lives on through every life we touch. 💜

Our scholars are the impact.

Week after week, they show up—open, honest, and willing to do the work. That trust is not small, and we don’t take it lightly. We appreciate their courage & commitment to wellbeing.

Right now, we’re serving 15 high schoolers through our MindShift Circles™️ school partnership program and supported ~30 teens through community work in 2025 across South Fulton + Atlanta.

This is what prevention looks like: consistency, safe space, and tools that help youth process life in healthy ways—before harm becomes a headline. Social & Emotional wellness amongst our youth creates better outcomes for them & our communities. Healing centered school based programming meeting teens where they are! 🧡💜

A message from our Founder:🫶🏾

Tonight I’m honored to be recognized as a 2026 Black Hero by Black Education Station.

To close out Black History Month in a moment like this is deeply meaningful — not just personally, but for the work itself.

Everything I build — through leadership development, community healing, and youth programming — comes from one belief:

People thrive when they feel seen, supported, and safe enough to grow.

This recognition isn’t just about me.
It reflects the lives, teams, and young people I’ve had the privilege to serve and learn from along the way.

If you’re doing work that matters, keep going.

There will be seasons when the impact is quiet.
When the effort feels unseen.
When the vision feels bigger than the support around you.

Stay committed anyway.

Purpose-driven work doesn’t always get immediate applause — but it always leaves evidence.

Grateful. Humbled. Still working.

Today we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—a leader who reminded us that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

At Make Justice Healing, we carry that truth forward through our Justice Through Healing movement—supporting youth and young adults as they process trauma, reclaim their voices, and build the future they deserve.

As we move into 2026, MLK’s vision remains at the core of our work: healing communities, restoring hope, and creating space for dreams to thrive.
