It's Spinning & Weaving Week! Today, we heard some amazing Thread Talks. This segment explores why everyday historical clothing rarely survives to the modern day. Melissa Weaver Dunning explains the life cycle of fabrics, from being handed down to children to eventually being sold as rags for papermaking.

Linda Hayden lives on a cattle ranch in Three Rivers, California, near Sequoia National Park, where she gathers natural plants to dye wool for her specialized saddle blankets. She founded Linda Hayden Saddle Blankets in 1996 and has exhibited throughout the West, with work collected internationally. Linda also creates hand-dyed, handspun clothing.

Allyce Wood is a Seattle-based visual artist and weaver. She earned an MA from Kunshøgskolen in Oslo, Norway, and has received prestigious grants from Arts Council Norway and Artist Trust. Allyce has completed notable public art projects with Sound Transit and exhibits her textile work internationally, including recent 2026 shows at SOIL Gallery and the Postmark Center.
