“NEST brings together federal leadership, philanthropic investment and trusted local health organizations in a coordinated national model.” – Dr. Judy Monroe

Our President and CEO Dr. Judy Monroe along with Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Administrator Thomas Engels and West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey attended the launch of the Newborn Essentials Support Toolkit (NEST) Program in Morgantown, West Virginia. The NEST Initiative, led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs in coordination with the HRSA, provides new mothers and families with essential newborn and postpartum supplies, educational information and connections to resources during the critical first weeks after birth. Every family deserves support as they welcome a new baby.

The CDC Foundation is supporting the expansion of the Newborn Essentials Support Toolkit (NEST) Initiative, led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, with the launch in West Virginia.

NEST provides families with essential newborn and postpartum supplies, including diapers, wipes, maternal recovery items and educational resources to help them navigate the first weeks with a newborn.

Thanks to partnerships with HHS, Elaine and John Chambers and Merck for Mothers and local health organizations, we're helping bring these important resources to families and communities starting in West Virginia.

When we say public health is everywhere, we really do mean everywhere—even space! It’s , so let’s look at a few ways space science and exploration connect to public health here on Earth.

-Space-related research has helped advance technologies used in medical imaging, including MRI machines.
-Satellites make GPS possible, helping communities map hazards, prepare for disasters and coordinate emergency response.
-Scientific and medical research in space is helping us better understand how the human body responds to extreme environments.

Schools should be about more than simply education. They should also provide youth with the coping skills they need to deal with today’s stressors, and develop into strong, civic-minded leaders. That is the philosophy Lisa Herald espouses—and brings to her role as the Teens Linked to Care site ambassador for Scott County, Indiana.

Through the CDC Foundation's Teens Linked to Care program, more than 12,000 participants in Georgia, Indiana and Kentucky are developing those skills and more through the three tenets of the Teens Linked to Care program: health education, safe and supportive environments and improved access to care.

Here, Lisa Herald discusses the stress facing youth today and how the Teens Linked to Care program can help students thrive.

A warm, healthy home shouldn’t come at the expense of other household needs. For , our latest Community Spotlight takes us to Duluth, Minnesota, a city that experiences below freezing temperatures nearly half the year.

Here, local nonprofit Ecolibrium3 provides robust training and energy industry certifications through its Energy Training Corps program.

The team offers free home energy assessments and weatherization services to income-qualified residents across Duluth, helping more people ready their homes for Minnesota's harsh winters while preparing Corps members for careers in this essential field.

For one resident, Ecolibrium3 identified air leaks, limited attic insulation and an aging fuel oil furnace that was consuming 15% of their income. The team sealed gaps, added insulation and replaced the old furnace with a more efficient system at no cost. The upgrades are expected to improve indoor air quality and save about $1,500 each year.

The CDC Foundation is proud to support organizations like Ecolibrium3 that are working directly with residents to create more resilient communities.

Three weeks. That’s how long it took North Carolina to fill a critical emergency response role, thanks to an agreement already in place with the CDC Foundation.

Since 2021, that same program has helped fill more than 6,000 public health positions nationwide. Your support helps keep the people, partnerships and infrastructure in place to be ready for any public health crisis.

Everyday choices can support heart health and the importance of finding approaches that work in real life.

Through the CDC Foundation’s Live to the Beat virtual coaching program, women are learning practical ways to build healthier habits, from drinking more water and moving more to managing stress and making nutritious food choices.

Read how participants are turning small steps into habits they can stick with and supporting one another along the way.

Diet and exercise. More sleep, less stress. Regular check-ups. Social connection. These are the building blocks of a heart healthy life, but how can we achieve all of this while also balancing the needs of our families?
