A Blueprint for Over 100 Years of Brotherhood
While at a party at a neighbor’s house, Joe DeLisle ’93, saw a copy of a 1922 Georgia Tech Blueprint sitting on a coffee table. Recognizing the Significance as the year of Beta Psi’s founding, Joe paged through the copy to find the pages dedicated to Sigma Chi. 🎉
As a bit of history, the founding story of the Beta Psi Chapter of Sigma Chi at Georgia Tech begins in the aftermath of World War I. 🐝
In the spring of 1919, a group of close friends at Georgia Tech became dissatisfied with the fraternity bids they had received from existing national fraternities on campus. Rather than joining organizations with which they did not feel aligned, they decided to create their own chapter. From the beginning, their goal was not simply to remain independent—they intended to affiliate eventually with a national fraternity whose reputation and principles matched their own ideals. The founders studied various national fraternities and ultimately concluded that Sigma Chi best embodied the values they admired. They chose Sigma Chi as the organization toward which they would work and petition for membership. Over the next several years, the local fraternity built support for its application. Their efforts were strengthened by endorsements from the Delta Chapter (UGA) and Beta Chi (Emory). Eventually, the petition was granted, and the Beta Psi Chapter of Sigma Chi was officially established at Georgia Tech in the spring of 1922.
From our humble beginnings, we have had an entrepreneurial spirt and drive that continues to bind us today! 💪
