Georgia is celebrating the talent and leadership of DeafBlind people.

Governor Brian Kemp has proclaimed October 18–24, 2026, as DeafBlind Access and Opportunity Week. Held during National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the observance reflects the 2026 theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” while highlighting the need to remove barriers so DeafBlind people have equal access to meaningful careers and full participation in community life.

Thank you, Governor Kemp, for issuing this proclamation and reaffirming the talent, leadership and contributions of DeafBlind Georgians.

We are looking for articles for Power Thoughts, our monthly reflection on leadership, personal growth and resilience.

The lessons you have learned in life could help someone realize they are not alone. Sharing your perspective or lived experience could empower them to overcome adversity and pursue their goals with renewed confidence and strength.

Articles should be 500–700 words and may explore any topic related to leadership, personal growth or resilience.

Education is essential, but access to education does not automatically create access to employment.

We should encourage youth with disabilities to pursue higher education, apprenticeships, certifications and career training that support their goals. We must also examine what happens after graduation: Are recruiting systems accessible? Is the accommodation process clear, consistent and efficient? Are managers equipped to recognize and reduce unconscious bias? Do employees with disabilities have equitable access to mentorship, advancement and leadership opportunities?

The pathway from learning to opportunity requires shared responsibility. Educators, workforce partners and employers can work together to remove barriers and create workplaces where talent is recognized, supported and able to grow.

Education opens doors. Inclusive workplaces make it possible to move forward.
