September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month … and by the end of this year, an estimated 338,830 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.

But the good news is that when it’s caught early, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100%, thanks in part to the work done by the American Cancer Society.

Talk to your doctor about getting screened, or encourage a loved one to do the same. Talking openly about prostate cancer screening could save a life.

Prostate cancer can be treated successfully – but far too many men aren’t getting screened. In fact, men are about half as likely as women to get screened for cancers of any kind. But together, we can help change that.

With caring people like you, we can help people detect cancer earlier and access the treatment they need. Together, we can make sure the people we care about are here for future conversations, birthdays, milestones, and more.

Hope Lodge communities help cancer patients access the treatment they need when care is far from home. With cancer treatment plans often lasting six to eight weeks or more, travel and lodging expenses can quickly escalate. With 31 facilities nationwide, the Hope Lodge network provides free lodging for people undergoing cancer treatment. Each year, nearly 37,000 guests stay at Hope Lodge communities, totaling more than 565,000 nights of lodging.

During his seven weeks of chemotherapy and radiation at UAB, Moose was able to stay at the Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge location nearby.

Being so far from home was emotionally difficult. Moose missed his wife and children and worried constantly about the responsibilities he had left behind. What he did not expect was how much the other Hope Lodge guests would lift his spirits.

“I don’t know how I would have made it without Hope Lodge,” Moose said. “We were all there for the same reason, and somehow, when we were together, it felt like none of us had cancer. Those people became family. I still talk to most of them today."

Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer – the five-year relative survival rate for all stages combined is 13%. This treatment brings powerful new hope to people facing pancreatic cancer and their families.
