Sleep isn’t just about rest; it’s one of the strongest protectors of teen mental health.

During adolescence, the brain is still developing, making quality sleep essential for emotional regulation, focus, and decision-making. When teens don’t get enough sleep, stress and anxiety levels rise, moods become harder to manage, and impulse control weakens.

That combination can increase the risk of turning to substances as a way to cope with fatigue, overwhelm, or emotional distress.

Healthy sleep habits don’t just improve rest, they strengthen resilience, support mental health, and reduce risky behaviors.

Sleep is prevention.

Emotions and feelings are not mutually exclusive. Feeling good doesn't mean you can't also feel bad, and vice versa.

Sometimes we feel guilty for feeling overwhelmed or sad in the midst of joyful experiences. But here's your reminder: it's okay to feel both.

Happiness doesn't negate sadness. The two can and do exist together.

Reach out to a loved one for help if you need it. And remember, if you're feeling 2 conflicting emotions, it's okay, and it's normal.

Fake pills are harder to spot than you think.

Many look exactly like real prescription medications, but may be made with or laced with fentanyl. There’s no way to see the difference, and just one pill can be deadly.

This is why accidental overdoses happen.

Help keep our youth and community safe by spreading the word. Share this post to spread awareness.

Are you someone who has a hard time relaxing? Do you find yourself always needing to accomplish something new? Do you need to complete your to-do list before doing something fun?

You're not alone.

Here's your gentle reminder this month:
• Rest is not a privilege, it's a necessity. You deserve and need to take care of yourself.
• Even if the only thing you did today was breathe, we're proud of you.

Don't forget, you're doing great, and your rest matters.

Prevention isn’t one-size-fits-all, and that’s exactly why we don’t take just one approach.

We work across our community using multiple strategies to reduce substance use and support youth and families:

• Shape the environment
We help limit access to alcohol and other substances while shifting community norms toward healthier choices.

• Strengthen community connections
We bring organizations, schools, and community members together to collaborate, plan, and deliver effective prevention efforts.

• Share clear, reliable information
We provide education on substance use, its impact, and where to find support so people can make informed decisions.

• Build real-life skills
Through interactive education, we help youth develop decision-making, refusal skills, and critical thinking.

Prevention works best when communities work together.

Which of these areas do you think makes the biggest impact where you live? 👇

Did you know there are two different types of coping for those experiencing a mental health crisis?

1 - Internal Coping: Includes breathing exercises, distracting oneself, and thinking of reasons for living.

2 - External Coping: Includes talking to one's support system (friends, family, counselors) or reaching out to a crisis line.

Each of these actions is beneficial; there is no one-size-fits-all. Each person will develop a preferred way of coping, and this approach may even vary from moment to moment.

This is a good reminder to listen to your body when choosing a coping mechanism. It's also a great reminder that our loved ones may need a different approach when they are feeling down.

Do you find yourself using more internal coping skills or external coping skills? Or maybe a combination? Share with us in the comments.

May 10-16 is National Prevention Week.

Prevention is something that everyone can take part in, and it happens in seemingly small, everyday moments.

We see it in
• Conversations that build trust
• Adults who show up consistently
• Communities that offer support before there’s a crisis

Take a moment to think about the ways prevention is part of your story. Have you...
• Led a classroom discussion
• Checked in on a friend
• Shared a resource

That's part of your prevention story.

Join the movement; share what prevention looks like in your life with the hashtag .

Prescription medications may come from a doctor, but that doesn’t mean they’re risk-free. When used the wrong way, they can be just as harmful as illegal drugs.

Using someone else’s prescription or changing your dosage without medical guidance can lead to serious consequences, including addiction and overdose.

Here’s something to think about:
• Nearly 50% of teens think prescription drugs are safer than illegal drugs. (Source: NIDA)
• Over 16 million Americans misused prescription medications last year, leading to thousands of hospitalizations and deaths. (Source: CDC)
• Opioids, often prescribed for pain, account for nearly 70% of drug overdose deaths in the U.S. (Source: CDC)

💡 Fact: Misusing medications like opioids, stimulants, and sedatives can have severe effects, from dependence to life-threatening overdose.

Just because a medication is prescribed doesn’t make it safe to use outside of its intended purpose.

Stick to your doctor’s directions, and never share your prescriptions.

Need support? If you or someone you know is facing challenges with substance use or mental health, reach out. Call or text 988 to connect with trained counselors. Help is available, and you don’t have to handle it alone.
