Poor kennel presence. With the exception of a few volunteers, everyone had written Athena off. Likely used for breeding and then discarded, she found herself in a full shelter completely overwhelmed, shut down, and scared. It wasn’t long before Athena landed on the euthanasia list. Kennel presence in an overcrowded shelter would became her death sentence.
Her luck changed when a foster came to save her.
Although Athena was only courtesy listed with us, we stayed in close contact with her foster to offer support and basic supplies along the way. Her story had already touched our hearts, and if there was a way we could help, we wanted to offer it.
It has been humbling to watch her transformation from a shy, unsure dog who was fearful and hesitant to the trusting, playful girl she is today. She needed time and someone willing to believe in her.
A full year passed in her foster home, but we never gave up on finding the perfect match for Athena. That match finally came, and Athena was adopted in January of this year.
